So I usually don't do this, cause I am not this type of person, but I need to vent. The past eight months have just been the like what the heck is going on with my life? Dating life sucks worse than ever, my career is not advancing as I thought it would, been having issues sleeping, and just other little things that just seems like I am on a bad luck streak. What really sucks the most is that it seems EVERYONE around me is going in the opposite direction!! Friends are getting married, getting promotions, going on great vacations, and I just feel stuck. Like I am really questioning myself and what type of person I am and how I am such a mess up at things right now. Ok that was my vent, I feel like one percent better, hopefully my luck will change for the better soon

Since we're ranting about things I've got a couple I'd like to air out. Lately I've had about 4 or 5 people blow past me without a thank you when holding a door open for them. LOL, I really don't care that much but it happened again this morning, I'm going out the door and I hold it open for a woman and she just walks through like I'm wearing a door man uniform or something. It seems like most people say thank you but I've noticed that several haven't lately. LOL, not that big of deal, really more of just a weird observation.

I was in the elevator and this woman, probably 40-ish, gets into the elevator with a couple of guys and she's talking about some work related issue and she's doing that damn vocal fry non-sense. I was already slightly annoyed with humanity regarding my first world door holding problem and I wanted to just turn around and say "just talk like a GD grown up already" I mean come on lady, it's not cute when 22 year olds do it and it's lame as hell when middle aged women do it. I don't really see guys doing it, but if they do do it I'd say the same thing.

NPR has done a couple of pieces on vocal fry with regards to its presenters and hosts: https://www.npr.org/2015/07/23/42560...-womens-voices

The interesting thing is that it's almost universally women who get criticized for speaking this way, when men do it just as much. So there's a discussion about if it's a way to dismiss women outright and keep them from speaking up.

I personally haven't seen guys do it, but if they do the douchebag meter pegs just as much as far as I'm concerned.

The lady in the clip said it was mostly women that do it, but whatever, LOL, I don't have a dawg in the fight, annoying is annoying, doesn't matter if it's men or women.

I've been working on that with my 10-year-old, who has picked up the habit of generously sprinkling her statements with "like". While its kind of cute now, I want to her to realize that it causes people to lose interest in/not take seriously in what she is saying.

People definitely do judge on those kinds of things, especially in the workforce. I'm pretty lenient toward most things but something about that way of talking just grinds my gears.

There's a time and a place for everything and I just found that besides being annoying it came off to me as pretty unprofessional and yeah, they were on an elevator and all but they were definitely talking work stuff...

Whatever at the end of the day.

One of the articles on vocal fry said that the annoyance with it is definitely generational. When older people hear someone with vocal fry or who says "like" a lot, it bothers them to the point that they can't concentrate on what the person is saying. When younger people hear the same recording, it barely registers at all, since that's how people talk. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
