I had a terribly difficult time dating, as a submariner [I lived underwater for 3 and a half months, and then I was 'off-crew' for 3 and a half months. Basically a 105 day cycle]
From the day I got into port I typically had 105 days until I would be deploying again. So that was my window to meet a girl, start dating her, etc. But at the end of my 'off-crew' period I would be gone.
Each time, when I returned to the surface 4 months later the previous girlfriend would have moved on to someone else.
Poor Police officers... the dating pool must be small.
Or not. I did two tours working as an MP [Military Police] many of our fellow Law Enforcement were civilians who were union members. I had to join the Law Enforcement union to gain access to redress within my unit. Once active in the union I was invited to their parties. Civilian Law Enforcement have groupies.
There exist girls who attend Law Enforcement parties and that seem to prefer to only date cops.
Assuming that we're speaking of "above the board" employment, there's really not a means of earning a living that would preclude me from dating a person.
In my active dating years, the men who I dated came from a variety of backgrounds, although all were reasonably well-educated, i.e., either self-educated or with a degree(s) of some sort. The most important thing in terms of employment for me is that they had a viable means of supporting themselves and weren't looking for someone to take them in.
There are far more factors that go into whether or not I'm willing to date a given person other than his work or career path.
Any high risk job such as police officer, firefighter, military etc.
I have nothing but respect for the 1st responders, I really do, but I just couldn't deal with having one as a spouse. I couldn't imagine that fear of them going to work and maybe not coming home. I know we all have that fear just getting in ours and driving about town, but it's not the same thing.
I feel awful just saying that out loud because obviously these people need and have the right to have spouses and families in their lives.
My only hard no would be a prostitute, even a high-end escort.
Beyond that, I would date pretty much anybody, I’d just be careful about catching feelings for some folks.
