All I know is that everytime a I see a "Native American Nativity Scene" complete with teepee, NDN Joseph and Mary, baby Jesus in a cradle board, "medicine men" as the wise men and buffalo and wolves for the manger animals, it really annoys the hell out of me.
It shouldn't. Recriminations over our ancestors' evils and trespasses have nothing to do with celebrating our American traditions as Americans . . . however they have come to be through history.
And that has what to do with what the American experience and traditions have been ever since???
The puritans are very much a part of the American tradition, from the foundation. If the Puritan way of being is "unAmerican" than the word "unAmerican" isn't really meaningful.
"The people who have made an issue of our traditional holidays having religious roots and have pressured our government and retailers, etc. to abandon them in the name of PC tolerance for diversity and fear of insulting others "
who exactly has pressured retailers? AFAICT those retailers who want to have a religious display do so. Those who dont, dont, cause they either dont want to offend their non christian customers, or because they dont want a tacky, commercial display that offends christians.
As for govt, thats a whole 'nother ball of wax.
"But to demand that we eradicate our American ones "
No one is demanding the eradication of christmas, whose celebration is all around us. Strawman.
LOL...you can have your traditions if you like, I'm not saying you have to quit. What I'm saying is that using the excuse of "it's tradition" is a silly reason to keep doing something. Do something because you ENJOY it or BELIEVE in it, not simply because it's what everyone else has done for a long time. That's just being a sheep.
BaAAAaaAA!
Celebrations of tradition are always symbolic societal acknowledgments . . . so the belief portion has no relevance . . . but the enjoyment part is de rigueur.
Jesus is too busy deciding which NFL wide receivers will or won't drop any passes this upcoming weekend to make any public appearances.
If that don't beat all! Now they've REALLY gone and done it!
Exposed the REAL reason contemporary mankind chooses to be Theist---To have a source to pray to in order to gain info to increase their odds for a more successful sports booking outcome!
Thanks a lot for "tipping our hand", you fool...just for that, I'm going back to playing poker!

Beginnings are important but not the defining part when there is 200 years of history to draw cultural information from.

Largely the PC-driven mainstream media and political pundits have been driving public opinion in the direction of the PC-idiocy . . . in a "be ashamed of" or blame America" frenzy . . . for decades.

The Puritans had absolutely nothing to do with the founding of the United States of America.
