Straw man argumentation. Of course it sdoes nothing to change her status . . . but it does mean that she did not partake of the Traditional American holidays as reflected in our cultural history. . . . which is VERY American. We have always been free from governmental imposition of rules about celebrating whatever we want to celebrate or not celebrate. This PC evil has turned that on its head because they do not lioke the dominant cultural traditions, period. There is no RIGHT to have your celebrations recognized or participated in . You simply have the FREEDOM to celebrate them. What the majority do is none of your business.
Meh..."it's tradition" is not a valid reason to keep something around.
I'm not really one of those "anti-Christmas" atheists as I tend to enjoy the Christmas/holiday season as a time to spend with friends and family. That does come about as a matter of tradition. I don't mind telling a friend or family member "Merry Christmas" but, on occasion, I might say "Happy Holidays." I really don't think either words are a big deal as they're just freakin' words.
Despite my rather non-contemptuous attitude towards Christmas, I do dislike one thing about it, whether it be tradition or not. I dislike the propagation of the idea that some child was born 2000 years ago as the result of sexual encounters between a supernatural being and a virgin woman whose said child then became the head patriarch of a religion that I'm supposed to acknowledge and tiptoe around lest I say something that might offend someone who believes in such a crazy idea. In this case, I think "PC" must go both ways and I will say "Merry Christmas" to someone as long as I can also say that I think the idea of a supernaturally inseminated virgin giving birth to a child is a rather far step - and quite ridiculous - to believe in. That is, if I'm asked how I feel about Christmas, of course. Otherwise, I'll either just say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays." Whichever pops off my tongue first.
Hmmmm sounds like an anti-American culture and denier/reviser of history and TRADITIONS that are part and parcel of American culture. It seems that respect for cultural differences and diversity applies only to other NON-American cultures. I repeat . . .Bah . . . humbug.
Hello, Mister Scrooge. (Including everything that particular appellation brings with it.)
Then what the hell is all this crap about respecting OTHER traditions???
LOL...you can have your traditions if you like, I'm not saying you have to quit. What I'm saying is that using the excuse of "it's tradition" is a silly reason to keep doing something. Do something because you ENJOY it or BELIEVE in it, not simply because it's what everyone else has done for a long time. That's just being a sheep.

Hmmmmm . . . ptsum, Goodpasture, et al. have displayed such high standards of respect and spirituality that I confess I am taken somewhat aback by your attitude, Nighteyes. It is Humbug and not the least bit honorable to disrespect our American traditions in the name of respecting OTHER traditions. Sorry that you do not see that.
All I know is that everytime a I see a "Native American Nativity Scene" complete with teepee, NDN Joseph and Mary, baby Jesus in a cradle board, "medicine men" as the wise men and buffalo and wolves for the manger animals, it really annoys the hell out of me.
Jesus is too busy deciding which NFL wide receivers will or won't drop any passes this upcoming weekend to make any public appearances.
