When this earth ceases to exist, which it eventually will, what was the point?

Why does there have to have been a point?

There doesn’t, if there’s no creator. Seems illogical to me, but OK.

I do think that is the most sensible thing you've said on this forum

Are you saying that the point of your life is to live an afterlife? Is that the only point you see in your life? Seriously trying to understand.

I won't edit since it could possibly throw things out of whack but as far as the natural world is concerned, the basic purpose for humans, plant life, etc, is reproduction.
Plants do their 'thing' much the same as humans do.
That may not add up to a 'point' as far as egotistical, reflective humans are concerned but it does give a 'purpose' as far as "Mother Nature' is concerned.

No, I’m saying that from an atheistic perspective, after this world is no more, there will have been no point to our existence.

Do you not understand that this is why you should make the best of the life you know you DO have?
Every single minute, every single day.
If thinking you have some 'extra help' with a god while you're in this one is fine and dandy but spending this one hoping a doubtful other one is coming is, as you said to me earlier, illogical.
Even if the world is no more, which is really doubtful....maybe just the world as we know it...it may continue, just without humans. And as with many extinct species, 'we humans' may be just a blip.

But you are incorrect. There is no point to our existence today if we do not make it ourselves. If you mean as an existence as a species we could well be extinct before the world ends anyways. Is the only reason for our existence 8s so that we can do whatever you think you'll be doing for the first ten billions years of afterlife.

I don't doubt you're a really good person, jimmiej, but the world existed before you were born( as far as you know, right?) and it will most probably continue after you die.
Contribute what you can while you're here and stop worrying about yourself........doesn't that go against everything you propose, usually ? Like worrying about MY soul?
