What a crock! The only blame lies with those in positions of trust, in this case the priest and bishops of the Catholic Church. No one else! Period.

The offender goes to jail, I don't disagree there.

But what the flip were the parents doing? I thought adults knew what a bunch of so-called celibate men are capable of doing.

I was an altar boy for more than 10 years. Never had a priest come within 10 metres of my presence "alone". My father was always there. He knew. He was a good Dad.

So, the question is, what kind of parents would leave their wards with potential sex offenders?

Answer: Morons

But this is a different world I know, where there's a notorious abundance of even step-dads molesting step daughters, half daughters, quarter daughters, then step-moms and vice versa. Going by this rule, priests can have a field day, like a walk in the park.

While one might question any group of individuals who invest trust in "holy men" the bottom line is that there still exists a reasonable, I repeat reasonable expectation that children entrusted to the care of teachers, pastors or anyone who has risen to a position of institutional leadership, be they gay, straight, or celibate will be cared for in an appropriate and responsible manner.

I'm Catholic and I'm first generation American (parents are both from Ireland). In NO WAY do I hold the parents of these children responsible. The responsibility of what was done - and what was allowed to happen for years - lies FIRMLY on the Church. No where else.

You calling Jesus a liar? I am talking about doctrine and truth, not about a sinful member.

So you are saying that a third to a half a billion Catholic children have been molested. It's people like you who will burn in the end who bears false witness against his neighbor. But you are probably an atheist or a once saved, always saved protestant. Ain't life easy?

You are transfering the blame from those that are directly responsible.

Hardly, we are the Church.

The refusal of the Church to deal with sexual abuse is what forced the whole thing into court.

It was ABC new who listed the "500,000 and growing" children abused by the church. It was the first they said about the abuse in Germany, and I think they more than made up for the long silence night before last.
The Jesus statement makes no sense even if I believed he existed, which I do not, saying he lied would not fit here as; he would have been dead 2000 years. If he did not exist it would be like saying the Easter Rabbit lied.

The hierarchy is guilty of being resposible for the sexual abuse and also for the payouts of money that was donated by the folks in the pews.
