A lot of lucky people here who get pensions. In my line of work, the pension went the way of the dodo. Same fir my husband, who works for a Fortune 500 company.

We are not fully retired yet, but I know what our sources of income will be. Hubs - modest defined benefit pension. Both of us - SS. Modest portfolio, stocks, bonds, TSAs. Passive income f/ residuals. Investment property. Hubs - adjunct professorships, he hopes will continue. Me - hope to continue writing.

Ok - the poll has been amended. Thanks mod .

BTW - I had put in an option that doesn't exactly make sense to me now. What kinds of pensions are neither "public" nor "private"? Robyn

I wondered about that. Perhaps annuities.

I could only assume that the people who responded to the "other categories" pension option received less than 30K/year from a public pension plan or less than 50K/year from a private pension plan. Or social security?

A lot of folks get annuities as a option within workforce retirement plans. Especially public 403B plans. I can easily see folks being sold annuities as another pension to supplement their benefit pension and there is little difference between an annuity and many defined contribution pensions. It is your own personal pension you own yourself. I can hear the salesman now. Wait I have years ago heard that but eventually they learned to stay miles from me.

ours will be from SS alone. hoping he gets FRA and I will get about 40% of his. He is 63 now and still working but with Parkinson's he may or may not make it to 66. IF NOT hopefully he can get on SSDI untill he hits 66. We have a SMALL amount in 401K not worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things .

Or maybe the OP should have said "pension retirement income" instead of just "retirement income" in the title of the thread.
