Weird post. It disparages religion which includes the bible. So free speech is stifled due to being offended by "religion". Thus cannot answer the question, obviously. Again, how strange

I have avoided answering this question because I can't without it being religious. I was told when I mentioned God in a previous post about suicide that we had a religious forum for those discussions. I'm just sharing this information so no one gets in trouble discussing religion.

The op stated "I do not intend for this thread to turn into a religious discussion"
Trust me, she meant to discriminate against Christianity and other religious beliefs which encompass "purpose". Without GOD, your purpose is whatever you decide it to be which is scary, imho.
I have always found purpose through my faith and a lifetime of service to others as a teacher and counselor. Also in supporting, loving, and enjoying my partner and dog family.
All are gone now but myself and one dog (for now) and I look forward to rescuing more animals and just enjoying the time I have left doing things I enjoy.
I have many interests and also find joy in the every day mundane things. Life is a gift and I do not take it for granted. Watch the birds, enjoy a beautiful sunrise, immerse yourself in the colors of autumn, view the stars at night, cuddle with a pet, whatever.
Get a cheap digital camera and go out and take photos of life around you. Make a bucket list of 10 things you'd like to experience in your daily life.
"Get busy living or get busy dying."
We have to create a life, it doesn't come to us. No matter our age.
As I once told my daughter, "At the very least, I can serve as a bad example." She apparently took me at my word and has turned out to be an almost perfect person.
I know the OP doesn't want this to become a religious discussion
Yep, it's hard to address the topic without bringing in religion.
I abandoned organized religion ca 2000, without prejudice, after teaching/leading Bible classes in a mainstream church for many years. Yet even I can't answer this question without invoking spiritual belief.
Long & short, I've come to know that my sole purpose in this life, on this planet, is to learn to forgive. Everyone, for everything, without exception. Including but not limited to myself and my own actions.
I fall short way more often than not but again it's a learning process so two steps forward, one step back is victory.
Luckily I've had some good role models along the way - both those who needed but didn't on the surface deserve forgiveness, and those who managed to overcome judgment and forgave them.
Thus endeth the sermon and thank you for listening.
