yeah, nothing to see here, move along. the mayor and cortez arent pandering to special interest groups, no sir!!! wonder who's getting the kickback from this name change?
its also ironic that chavez is looked at as a california icon. what does this have to do with sa? nothing! wasnt chavez also anti-illegal immigration? do any of the tards that voted for this change know the facts about what chavez really stood for , or is it 'hes brown so lets rename this historic street after him!!!'

Today, the city council voted successfully to change the name of Durango Blvd downtown to Cesar Chavez (with an estimated cost of $100,000). This was done despite a lot of protest from people in the area, particularly those who lived in the area and would be affected by the name change.
This really saddens me. Why do these people act as if the people they are representing don't even matter? Are they in office just to take care of personal agendas like this one?
I've heard that it's because this council person wants to make his mark of having done something while in office. That's fine, but it's with no regard for the people of San Antonio, or the history of the street name. A statue downtown would have been cheaper, probably more reverent.
But the good thing is, I suppose renaming the street is a more impressive feat that his children and grandchildren will remember him by. More than a simple statue or memorial could have achieved.
Streets, aircraft carrier...hey lets rename the country the united states of chavez.
I always found it suspicious that the Conservation Society has never protested or pursued litigation involving other street name changes. Coupled with the fact that most of its members live in the Alamo Heights and surrounding area, OK a few do live in King William, and reviewing its roster that it seemed as if their opposition was based on ethnic differences.
Also no one can speak for most tax payers because some of us did support this. It is total win for those who support diversity.
I'm annoyed this is a total waste of taxpayer monies. Do we really need to be spending $100,000 to change a street name? I wonder why they don't just named a new street after him. That's a lot of money that could be used for something to help better our city. How is changing Durango to Cesar Chavez going to help the citizens of SA? This is a bunch of bs! Why not actually use that money for something useful or save it.

It's hard to prove anyone acted out of ethnicity reason, I think that is something that some people may just assume, but they don't know that for a fact. SOme people just see no reason to spend money on that type of thing, epsecially with all that's going on in our country right now about proper spending. Of course there are different special interest groups, but the big difference on this one, was that one side was not gonna cost the city $100,000. I think diversity is a great thing, but I agreed earlier that you could name another street Cesar Chavez St and use that money for something more useful.
