Anyone remember the old Kline's stores, there was one downtown, and one in South Park Mall. Don't remember where the others were.

Real good Breakfast. And on the side of it had a little To go Fish and Chicken Place. As I mentioned before there fish tasted just like Firstmate. I have never tasted that taste again. Right behind Capt Jims Was the Trial Drive In. Right across the Military Drive was another SA Great. The Tall Texan. Great Nachos and Chicken Fried Steak.

Now that you mention Popcorn, that was what the old Sears smelled like. I can still remember the smell of that place -popcorn and something like new clothes. I still have weird dreams about that place. I can remember we would park across the street in a parking garage -I think my memory serves me right and then cross the street to go shopping for school clothes. I think credit cards were still a new concept in the early 70's. Anyway -my parents would buy all of our school clothes sometime in July or August and then a few years later actually it was a few months later, but to a five year old it felt like years; we would get the big brown boxes filled with new school clothes. It was like an Odyssey going to the Sears downtown. There was no Ingram Mall and Wonderland Mall didn't have what Sears had -Toughskins and Winnie-the-Pooh shirts...those were da bomb. Those hard Toughskins with the patches on the inside of the pants for little kids that played in the grass and mud and wore holes in their pants. Who remembers rolling down that steep hill at the Institute of Texan Cultures? Well, that's where the Toughskins came in handy......peanuts.......the Sears also smelled like roasted peanuts and popcorn. I guess I'm dating myself because I can remember the Frankenstein bellbottoms from the House of Jeans too huh? I call them Frankenstein jeans because they were so hard and you had to walk around really stiff for a few wearings until Mom washed them and then they were comfortable. What and innovative mind that thought up pre-washed jeans. Anyway, I also remember thinking that I lived in the "future" when I saw something at Sears that just blew my mind......actually it still blows my mind. Yes, it was a toilet paper dispenser with........a radio stuck to it. I just stood there and my five year old mind was reeling. I thought think about the possibilities. What's next.......a shower with a TV? I felt like I was five years old standing in Sears circa 1975 the other day when I went to Best Buy and I saw a TV slapped to the side of a fridge...I get chills. Did they have black light posters with the 'shrooms on them at that Sears and those groovy hippy speakers with lights in them or was that Wards that was way groovy man?

I remember those..the bigger the bellbottoms, the better. And of course we had to wear them with those Track King -black -canvas -with -white -stripes tennis shoes. You could hear someone coming from literally a mile away because of the loud "swish swish" of the bellbottoms rubbing against each other as you walked!!

I remember Toughskins too...and being a chunky little kid, Huskies were in my vocabulary back then also!

*Lubianski's Hall
*La Lousianne...I grew up nasty poor...I hoped to eat at Earl Abel's one day (yeah, THAT poor)...and really wanted to make L.L...sorry it disappeared before I could experience it.
*Felix's coffe shop at the Kon-Tiki...was a martini lounge, w/o the martinis...WAY freakin' kewl.
*Leon's, his brother's, right across the street...they don't talk, still...but both good businessmen and family men. (Adella, I still love you!!!)
*Stillwater, local group...Gary, Tom, Mark, Lisa.

What about The Abbey at Lubinaski's? They still get together now and then and play. I haven't heard them in decades. At that time I lived on FM1518 between Schertz and I10. Lubinaski's was THE place to go.

La Louisanne - I ate there a couple of times and the food was great.

Felix's/Leon's - Ate at both of them a lot of years ago. I preferred Felix's.

Stillwater - I'll bet my mom or dad still has their picture in a box somewhere, They were wearing the old western clothes and it was in a barnwood frame and it hung on the wall in our living room. I remember them going to parties at our house in the late 70's (?).

The fish and chicken were the best, I was sadden when it closed.

Remember the 2nd floor of the Sears downtown you would buy your Spurs tickets, and on the 1st floor they had the restaraunt and snack bar. I also remember in the early 80's you could play the atari game on the entrance by Soledad. In the basement was the hardware dept, and the TV's were on the 3rd floor. Great memories.

I used to also like the Dunkin Doughnuts on Military dr, and the old luby's in the Dillards-Sears shopping center.

This I definitely remember. When Sears was where HEB is now and HEB was where Peter Pipers is and even before that when HEB was a real small store the size of the HEB that is still there on S. Presa. The Dollar Tree next to Jack in the Box was a Kennys shoes.
Oh do you remember when nothing was opened on Sundays and at HEB they closed off the toy section on Sundays. The malls were closed and so were car dealerships. Talk about fear of God, what happened to that. The only thing still closed on Sundays is Chikfila and Las Palapas unless that has changed as well.
How funny though that HEB closed off the toy isle on Sundays but they sold Playboy, Hustler and Penthouse along with all the other magazines and no plastic cover. I remember they showed porn movies at the Drive Inn, how crazy was that. Those were the days.
