::::sigh:::: they just dont make cars the way they used to. Back when I was a kid you could launch a football off the side of a car and all it did was make a clean spot and no dent!

It's a sad sad day when people are complaining about children playing in the street...

They should be inside surfing the internet, playing video games, and getting fat.

i gotta say, i can't complain much when kids decide to play outside rather than sit like layabouts indoors for their whole childhood.

but, there is something to be said about how kids are behaving regardless. there are a ton of kids in our neighborhood, and while most seem careful and respectful when playing in the streets, there are some who tend to get away with things like digging in other people's yard, harassing dogs, not moving for traffic, etc. it makes me wonder whether or not the parents know what their kids are up to at all, sometimes.

i think the neighborhood, though not gated (or that fantastic,) has its own patrol program which i think is supposed to look for kids past curfew and other shenanigans. doesn't seem to help with the graffiti but... i digress, perhaps op could see if there's a neighborhood group like that, or organize one. the squeaky wheel and all that.

i'm also in support of boobytraps.

We used to have bottle rocket wars in the streets when we were kids. But we would have never dreamed of digging in a neighbors yard, and we stayed away from traffic. And as for the dogs - they were in the backyard (where they are supposed to be) or inside.

Ahhhh.... those were the days... when the air was fresh and gasoline/beer/cigs were cheap....

Bottle rocket wars, firecracker wars, BB gun wars, rock and dirtclod wars, building forts and raiding/destroying other people's forts... Ah, the joys of growing up

i kno this might be mean but if you have talked to them multiple time and tried talking to the parents with no luck I would call the cops...I'm sorry but if some rude kid put a dent in my car I would have a fitt...I'd get the cops involved...It's one thing to be playing outside and being respectful of your surroundings n other peoples property and just acting like a dang animal...like I said thta might be mean I'm just telling it like it is...and yes I have kids and I would whoop my kids butt if he dented someones car and he would be commin out of pocket to fix it too...

I think you are missing the context of the thread. Back when I was a kid (70's to 80's) we played in the street. If we were playing football we stayed far away from cars. Probably not because we thought we might damage them, but there was nothing like running a streak pattern looking back for the ball and then BAM right into a bumper.

The ONLY time you went into someone else yard was if you missed the catch and the ball rolled there. You damn sure got out of their yard fast.

When we played street hockey, you didnt want anything to do with cars because they take up so much room on the street and invariably your hockey ball ended up under a car.

Point is, we stayed away from cars. We didnt want people yelling at us, and god forbid we damaged a car and our parents found out. Same thing went for people's yards.

Today.....kids could care less and many parents seem like they could care even less. Seems to be a huge lack of respect along with a sense of entitlement with kids these days.
