We're thinking about moving to either Arrowhead or Big Bear. We're retired, so we don't have to worry about employment. What are the differences between the two cities?

People, weather, housing (which city is less expensive), crime, access to services, etc. Anything you can think of would be greatly appreciated.

Big Bear seems more laid back. Great small town feel.
Arrowhead seems pretentious. Like they are trying to be Aspin, CO.

You spelled it like Harry and Lloyd did when they left their note for the gas man.

I don't think 6 posts is enough to point out you spelled Aspen wrong. Just thought I'd let you know just in case you didn't see the 6 prior posts.

I'm a young guy and haven't been to either very much but I believe Arrowhead is cheaper. I went up there earlier this year and many decent looking cabins were about 180k. I really liked it up there and was all "i'm gonna move up here!!!" til I realized getting a job up there is tough. Arrowhead is closer to the non-mountainous area so its a shorter drive down the mountain.

Big Bear has alot more things to do and has more "chain" shops. It seems like everyone in Arrowhead knows each other when I was in their downtown area.

Thanks FerretKona and DubD,

You were the only two who gave me any information I could use. Who cares how Aspen is spelled! This isn't a spelling bee...
