More rearranging chairs than new competition

I loved Haggens until they left Oregon a few years ago. The best comparison I can think of is Ralphs. Their produce was good, a little high priced for everyday shopping, but I just bought what they did best. Loved the scones from the bakery. I imagine it will take some time for them to really put their mark on pre-existing locations.

I shopped there when I lived in Bellingham WA. I thought the food selection was excellent. The bread selection great, and the hot foods worthy of going for lunch - which a few of us did often. But the prices were the highest I've seen anywhere in the country.

I think the Haggens in Bellingham (there are at least 4) are top notch. Great fresh produce, wonderful seafood, always a deli with place to eat in if you like, and o.k., the prices were not the lowest; but you pay for what you get. These were not stores that were taken over; they were built as Haggens. Maybe that means you will have to wait awhile for them to put their stamp on the stores they acquire.

They took over the one by our house in Poway too. A clerk there said that all but maybe 2 Albertson's in San Diego will be Haggens soon. The employees knew about this transaction for ~6 months.

Prices dropped a little from what I've seen, and they actually offer to lower the price at stations like the fish/meat department.

We'll have to wait and see.

Who's paying you for writing that? No need to wait, as I seen the originals.
I may have said previously, they may have expanded too quickly; I believe this may have happened to the 1990s Roadkill Cafe in Greenville, Maine, on Moosehead Lake.

I drove past that area the other day and noticed the Haggens and figured I might as well check it out. I was not impressed and thought it was a little bit expensive for what they sold. And i shop at Whole foods or Jimbos most of the time. It just seemed like an overpriced Ralphs.

A lot of hate here for Haggens...wow. I lived in San Diego Co. for over 30 years & I wish Haggens had been there. They took over Albertson's in the PNW & it appears to be an improvement.

Albertson's delivers rotting produce 2x a week at a 50% markup.
