relocation to Poway
Our family of 4 may be making the move from rainy Oregon to sunny California My husband would be working in Poway so we would like to live within a short commute. Schools are big on my list and this district seems to fit the bill. But we are renting to start not buying so where are my most affordable options for townhomes/duplexes,condos in this district? Where are the best listings for what is available besides craigslist? Thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the link. It is hard to pick an area. I want family friendly, low crime, and good schools but not sure.... I guess when we visit for the interview we will check out different areas.

Is your husband's company providing you with a relocation realtor? If not, they can help you with areas to look at, and with rentals too not just buying a home. I can give you the name of the realtor that helped us or a property management company to help you find rentals. If you are interested send me a DM.

I just moved to the Carmel Mountain area which is close to Poway and in the Poway school district. The school district is one of the best in the nation and I have been very impressed with the teaching programs at my son's school. A word of caution though, my wife and I found out when we moved here that school class rooms are capped at 20 students. The first grade class had enough openings but the third grade did not, so we were unable to enroll our two boys in the nearest school. They are both in a school that is a couple of miles away, which is better then when I was a kid riding the bus from the country for an hour, but still a hassle. Next year they will be able to transfer to the school which is closer, but then they become the new kids in school again.

I did not know that. That is good to know. My oldest is in high school and my youngest starts next year. We are coming next weekend to check the area out.

Another question-would the commute from Escondido to Poway be a bad one?

It wouldn't be preferred. South on the 15 and south on the 5 in the morning are not the ones to have.
Crime stats (I don't think Poway or Escondido are in San Diego city limits though):

I will keep hashing it out. Preference is a 30 minute commute max each way-what options does that give us?

does it make a difference that the commute would be at 5am heading south and at 3pm heading north?
