I'm just curious. Oceanside I've found doesn't have the greatest of reputations. According to my very informal survey, most people think Oceanside is either 1) crime infested 2) gritty 3) dirty 4)full of prostitutes 5) full of illegal immigrant gang members and/or just not a great place.

I don't know if it's that bad. Granted, I haven't been to east Oceanside, but while the 101 district certainly isn't Del Mar or even Encinitas for that matter...it does have some cool shops and it's not that run down.

What do you think?

Yeah, it is a pretty safe place. I wouldn't want to live there and I hear the schools suck but it's not likely that you'll get mugged or anything. There are a lot of hookers there though so I guess those Marines are doing some pay for play.

From reading the San Diego Tribune, it seems that Oceanside has a lot more crime per capita, and not just robberies, but cops getting shot, etc. A neighborhood like that can really negatively affect all other parts of your life, so I would choose any other part of SD.
