For SF, you should stay away from Sixth Street below Mission, avoid the Tenderloin (roughly west of Mason until Polk, between Market & Geary), and if you go to the Mission stay west of Mission Street at least at night.
Exactly. If you are looking for drug dealers, you have to worry a lot more. Otherwise use your basic street smarts. Put your money away before leaving the ATM. Walking down the street looking at your ipad is not a good idea.....

Seriously? (I mean for the ipad thing)

Man, I need to change all my habits!

Hope whatever they're doing to reduce crime will work!

So you think it is for the gangs, not i. e because of the many homeless?

Depends on where you are in S.F. How many homeless hang around Seacliff?

Don't generalize.

Oakland may be a different city 60 years in the future, but how is that relevant for anyone able to post in this thread?
How is this relevant to people who have lived quite happily and peacefully in Oakland all their lives? There are many Oaklands. Some are like Berkeley. Others aren't. Similar things can be said about almost any city in the US.

If people like Oakland, and are okay with what it is now, then that's fine. They will continue living in the city and be happy.

But I personally don't think many people would be happy or satisfied with the way Oakland is right now.
