Seriously! If someone really wanted to work, they could.
Im 49yrs old and never have been without a job since I was 13yrs old.
I started out as a paper delivery boy, worked a few summers at a farmers market.
Then spent 3 years with Mcdonalds, numerous other restaurants, a Butt Load of Temp Factory jobs. in 1991 I got a good Union Auto Parts Job, that lasted 11 yrs, then it ended in 2002. Went to truck driving school and drove cross country for a year, wasn't for me. Moved to Phoenix in 2004 and been here ever since working as a Driver and Warehouseman and Im content.
So there is no excuse for not finding a job.
And Im not Obliged to give one red cent to anyone on the street.
I'll tell you where you can get government services, but it's not my job to care for any of these people.
I don't live no Extravagant lifestyle, just getting by comfortably, bills always paid on time, Spotless credit. and a little left over every weekend for dinner and movies and such.
and enough to take a nice yearly vacation every year, just got back from 2 weeks in San francisco.
So after reading these posts, I can tell you if you really wanted a job, you could get one.
all you got to do is shower put on some clean clothes get you some work boots and hang out at the Labor ready places, they will find you work. I know, because I did that in my past. the first jobs won't pay much, but you get experience and slowly move up, learn to drive a forklift or show your a good worker and you could be making $10 to 12 an hour in no time.
I know the OP said they don't like HEAT, but in my research some of the cities with the most low skilled entry work are in southern states, Houston is booming right now.
You might find a low skilled job in San francisco, but your not ever gonna find an affordable place to live there.
I understand You just want to be comfortable, So GO to San Francisco and BE Comfortable.
But Don't Spout out that it's Impossible to find a job, because I say Bull**** on that one.
if you can't find a JOB, then 1. Your not really trying to look.
2. You don't have the right attitude to be hired.
An employer is looking for someone to help them and to keep there business working.
There not there to care for you or be your babysitter.
I used to be a Hard Core Pro-Union Socialist, But I seen where that really led.
It's a System that doesn't work, because to many deadbeats learn how to con the system and they milk it dry till it comes crashing down.
Under True Socialism, we should all Give the best that we can and the state should supply us with the resources to live and survive comfortably.
But the problem is, Nobody wants to Work or give in to the system, everyone wants to lay around and just Suck that big Fat Government TIT!
So Socialism will always be doomed to fail, Unless man has a Major shift in his mindset.
ok, I went off on a tangent here.
But it just ticks me off, when someone thinks I have to provide for them or give them Money.
You know what I tell beggars on the street when I pass them and they say "Hey Man, Can I have a dollar"? I say "What! Give away money, thats absurd!" then I laugh and walk away.
Of course Ive been called all kinds of names. OH Well Names don't hurt ya.
If more people would just stop giving to the homeless, then they would realize, they have to go get a job or there gonna starve to death.
STOP FEEDING THE PIDGEONS! You just enable them and more keep showing up.

One more thing!
Back in my old Hometown, the Temp Agencies used to hire the Homeless.
In some cities they have Day Labor centers, where they take you out on a job and pay you cash when your done.
In Cleveland, the Homeless alway's cleaned up the stadium after the football games.
Your Really Not Trying your best.

This dude is sitting at home pretending to be a 'homeless bum'.

One of those guys who lives with his mom and daydreams about how romantic it would be to run away to San Francisco and be homeless.

Dport7674:
I don't know, Ive seen homeless with smartphones hanging out at Mcdonalds for the free wi-fi.
What really ticked me off though was his diatribe about how the "Haves" Owe The "Have Nots"
Like it's all us working people who make a living, that owe them money.
I don't owe them Feces.
I never give to the homeless NEVER!
the Tax dollars that I pay from my paycheck, should be used to help clean there act up and get them being a responsible citizen once again.
and if there to crazy and can't live in society, then they need to be institutionalized for there own and others good.
Being Homeless and Loitering like that, should be made illegal.
there's nothing wrong with spending a day at the park lying in the sun.
But when you set up residence there and live there NO That Has To Stop.
you have to ask yourself, What kind of society are we, for letting people live on the street and finding there food in the garbage.
Build Sufficient Shelters. provide them with just Food and shelter and nothing else.
NO MONEY! kind of like our parents did for us as children.
use tax dollars to do this. or charitable donations.
have programs set up where you get them cleaned up in some decent clothes and counseling and get them back into the workforce.
once they have established they are capable and earning a living, give them 2 options they can continue living in the shelter or move out. but they will then be charged a fair rent to live there and they will have to clean up after themselves.
they can move out, but not back on the street, that would be a crime and would get them jail time.
for the ones deemed just to crazy to care for themself or don't want to cooperate or even try. there is institutionalization.
But our goal is Zero panhandlers and Zero Homeless.

And Since Im solving all the worlds problems here
How about we fix that dam border?
Bring our military Home and set up a good old fashioned "Soviet Style Border along Mexico and canada if they get all uppity to the north
Seriously why are we even putting up with this?
I seen on the news the other day, they showed thousands of people riding the rails in Mexico and they were headed to the USA.
We need to quit being these Whiney yellow bellied push overs, who let just anyone move in and take advantage of us.
America needs to stand up and in One Voice Say NO MORE!
maybe I should run for president, seeing the one we have and the ones before him were just useless.

Part of the problem is that US employers like the cheap labor. Another part of the problem is that the US has a knack for completely trashing the countries to its south, especially in Central America. Guatemala had one of the strongest economies in the region until the government got into the genocide business, as part of a broader strategy to combat an insurgency that developed after a US-organized coup against a democratically-elected President.

The contra war in the area was devastating to struggling economies and sowed some of the seeds for the current violence in Honduras. That, and recent US support for a President in Honduras who may not have been elected democratically.

What we're seeing is the chickens coming home to roost. If the US supported democracy and economic development in Central America, instead of backing US corporations interested only in sucking resources out of those countries, people would be content to stay home and have decent jobs and a decent standard of living. Not to mention, physical safety.
