A lot of threads are started pertaining to the negative aspects of the City (which we all know too well) i.e. the COL and homelessness. Often (in this forum) it feels as though I’m the only one who actually enjoys living here - lol, so I’m curious. Anybody else out there who is happy to be living here (or the surrounding Bay Area) - and why?

I enjoy it. Love the amenities, the diversity, the public transportation - all of the options I have locally for everything.

If you can afford it, there's a lot to like. There are even neighborhoods, where there's not much homelessness, that still have some of the ambience of the "old" SF, the pre-techie SF. There used to be a poster here, who would wax poetic about the City, fancying himself to be a latter-day Herb Cain (a popular columnist for the Chron, from mid-to-late last century). Unfortunately, some of the members here treated him like a troll. Hopefully, this thread will do better.

Glad you like the City, OP.

‘Poetic’ is certainly pushing it - but as a realist, there’s definitely a lot to like in my mind.

I love SF and would live there if it were affordable. I especially like the area right around the Tennessee Grill on Taraval.

Haven't been to the Tennessee Grill in years, but it's great.

SF is picturesque, and the weather is good if you stay towards the Bay side. I'd happily live there again if it were a "normal" city and not just a play land for the ultra-rich and ultra-poor. Nowadays I can enjoy a distant skyline view from my home in the East Bay and on my commute to/from Marin.

I hosted relatives from Brisbane, Australia this weekend. It was their first time here and they absolutely loved SF, specifically the scenery, the weather, the food, etc.

One thing about living here, there is no shortage of places to take visitors.

It is ‘normal’ - people work (and live) here just like any other large city.
