"Sarcasm" seems to be lost on most people here. They all look at me with blank stares when I make a sarcastic joke or comment.

Say "thats gay" your called out as a homophobe.

People give you stares of disaproval if your the type of person that looks like to have somewhere to go, commitments to make, likes to dress up for business etc. Just no sense of working to "get ahead". What gives? Do people here just prefer others to be as miserable, non-goal oriented, aim-less and broke as they are?

Overall the people in this area seem to lack alot of aspects of character and tend to be very introverted and quiet. I also see theres less of an energy here. Everything from major stores to mom and pop shops to restaurants closes early and people don't seem to care. Even nightclubs close early (WTF?).

Anyways I was just venting. Personally I think the weather is great here, but I like the east coast better in terms of the relationships, people and the overall attitude of most people. I just gel well with folks who are more honest about themselves and know how to stick up for themselves without complaining or crying. Those types are usually laughed out of New York City. Its very soft.

How can people live like this day and day out and not go crazy?

Agreed, very well said.

In NYC on the other hand, if you spout that sort of stuff people regard you as being a complete kook. NYCers are still good Americans, IMHO, no matter how "liberal" they may be politically.
You haven't lived and worked among the left-wing Upper West Side crowd in New York. They're just as anti-American as anyone in San Francisco. Ugh.

Hear that, residents of SF? You Are All "Anti-American!"

Things that make you say "Hmmmm."

Please brush up on your English. What I said is the exact opposite of what you think I said.

Wow. Mission and Potrero... hipster central (nothing fake about that, nor the gentrified areas in which they live). Full of posers and pretenders. It's funny how those folks go so out of their way to advertise or otherwise remind you about how "real" and "laid back" they are... funnier still is how when I go to other places people don't talk about how real they are or how fake everyone else is constantly... they just are, real or fake, they don't talk it, they are it... And also, I can tell by a lot of what you say here that despite going to Minneapolis (worst than SF, by a long shot), you don't seem well traveled. Especially if you consider the hipsters in the Mission and Potrero Hill the realest people you ever met. And I know I'm talking a lot of sh*t but everything aside I feel sorry for you if posers like that are the realest people you ever met... guess I should be thankful that I've had good enough experiences that my standards aren't so low... and I have to admit that I have some great friends in the bay (none from those neighborhoods) and I love them... they're great human beings and they are real. But generally speaking, people in SF are the fakest I've ever met (and I am well traveled; been to every state except four--and have lived in five states--been to 10 foreign countries and have lived in one).

I've been other places, and I can tell you--it IS the best place in the world! as Goldilocks said: "not too hot, not too cold, but just right".

Yeah. When you've been to Minneapolis SF is paradise. Agreed. I just wanna say though that being well traveled, I'd advise you to not travel to other places; doing so might open your eyes to all that you've been missing. It's that whole ignorance is bliss thing. You're just better off operating from the delusion that SF is the best place in the world. Unfortunately, I'm well traveled enough that I know that there are better places, I've been to plenty... all this had made living in SF uncomfortable.

We love our fog. that's not to say we don't like sunny days, but there is a reason why we use the name "fogtown" with pride. personally, I like the rain. adds atmosphere. Even so, what would you expect when you're surrounded on three sides by ocean.

We? ... yeah. Anyway... I could go on wasting my time but I actually got to run... but think you got the jist of it.

Yeah I got that speech too...In Minneapolis, because I threw a bottle into a construction yard.

"We grew here, you flew here" is a common thing to hear in Hawaii. yet no one ever complains about them wanting to protect their local lifestyle or culture. what's wrong with us not wanting to have a bunch of obnoxious Texas or LA-types wandering around?

Good! maybe if it keeps those annoying out-of-staters at bay, since they keep trying to turn OUR California into THEIR weak state ("Bay area is too liberal, it's too expensive, it's too multi-racial", blah blah blah)

we are more tolerant. For example: if you're a black person, try walking into East LA and just hang out. or try walking into Pacific Palisades and just hang out.

Hell, just look at all your neighbors. LA is a very segregated city. parts of the Bay area are too, but we at least acknowledge it where we see it and try to change it when we can. LA seems to almost take pride in it's racial segregation ("East LA is like Mexico" I commonly hear from those fools from the Palisades)
Proof and reason why San Francisco and it's a$s backwards people make SF a deplorable place to live.

Yeah, so deplorable, people are beating a path to the place and are willing to pay top dollar to live there.

If we are to believe your placement marker, your characterization of SF folks would include you, no?

I grew up in the Bay Area and lived in NYC for four years. When I moved to NYC, it was refreshing at first how unfiltered people were. But after a while, it got really old. Sometimes you just want people to be pleasant and not spout off something critical or offensive. I don't think it is about being soft, I think it is about focusing on the positive and not the negative.
