I'm pretty sure that was never actually said by him. But yes, the bay area does have the best weather in the country IMO. So many different climates to escape if too hot or too cold.

I lived in Boston and when I described the weather in California they all said that they love the four seasons. Then winter hits and they are all crying about the cold and snow! Makes me laugh. I'll take California weather any time!

Like I used to tell my Boston friends, when we want snow we visit it. We don't live in it!

It is all personal preference. I think in general people like a moderate climate. The three most well known city's in California are all moderate... just tweaked a little from one another.

SF is moderately cool
LA is moderately warm
SD is moderately moderate

I'll testify! SF has the absolute best weather in the world for me because I have sensitive skin. I can't stand the heat, humidity, or the cold. Period.

When I'm in even slightly humid conditions, I break out into hives. I'm glad my parents immigrated to the US, cuz I'd probably be dead from the heat and humidity of thier native lands. Heat rash, miliaria, you name it, I get it from heat and humidity.

I just got back from NYC and the cold temperatures between 20-30 does not do it for me as well. I got a blister on my lip because of the freeze and it just won't heal. Totally embarrassing for me at work.

SF is the perfect ideal. It's mild and fair, and warms up from time to time.

If it gets a bit cold, put on a light coat. No big deal. I'm shocked at the people that make this a big deal. If I had to live in a region with 4 season, it would be the death of me, seriously.

And don't get me started on our microclimates. We probably have the only customizable weather in the world, especially in the summer. Anywhere from 60 to 90+ degrees, it's up to you - you can choose. How crazy is that?

Another vote for San Diego.

Though, I won't deny that the Bay Area has near-perfect weather too.

I didn't know anyone thought San Francisco had the best weather in the USA... really??

San Diego has the best overall weather. I thought that was common knowledge.

I don't know if it has the best weather in the ENTIRE US, but it does out of any part I've ever been to. Particularly San Mateo/Burlingame, Oakland, and Palo Alto, in that order IMO. When the North, South and inland East Bay get too hot, and SF/Daly City/Pacifica/SSF get too cold from the fog, the cities I chose have the most comfortable weather in the area. Palo Alto gets a bit on the warmer side, but its so nice and pleasant I just can't complain. And the Oakland and San Mateo areas I find to be just perfect for me, and the most tolerable year round of any place I've ever been to. I have yet to check out SD though.

Your right. Mark Twain did not say it.

However, the quote is right on target. I remember going to Giants games at Candlestick in the 60's as a kid. 80 degrees until the 7th inning and then 40 degrees with 20 MPH winds. I got sick from the food and hypothermia. At least Willie Mays was there!!

Anybody that thinks the weather is San Francisco is perfect has never been to Hawaii. There if it is raining where your standing you can drive 20 minutes to sunshine. What more could you want??

Too bloody hot. Hawaii is nice, but the weather is like living in a Sauna.

No, the Bay Area is generally very comfortable. Just how I like it.
