2-4 years? If this was anyone who didn't happen to have a police badge, they would be put away for a much longer time.

KTVU is conflicted on whether or not the gun enhancement was applied to the sentence. That makes a huge difference.

From what I read, and that is only what I am going off of, I did not watch this trial, but from what I was reading, that is what I thought he was going to get convicted of.

Be safe everyone.

Well, it would have been a whole set of circumstances at that point. The officer was in the process of carrying out his duties up until the incident. Someone like you or me would not have a reason to detain the victim in this case. That is the difference.

10+ years sounds about right. I just got caught up in all the twitter posts saying 2-4 years.

I think the people of Oakland should be content with the sentence and not riot. It isn't often that a cop is found guilty of killing a civilian.

I agree. I'm not saying this verdict was correct but we can't compare what a police officer on duty does to anything the average person does during the course of their day and apply everything equally. It's two different worlds.

Yes, he did use a gun, but that is a "tool of the trade" so to say. The jury felt there was a circumstance of a lack of judgement as he claims he was reaching for the taser and not the gun, but in the heat of the moment acted quickly.

I do not think, in my opinion that the gun will not be a factor in sentencing.

Yes, but he's required to carry one for his job. It's not like he decided to rob a liquor store and went with the glock over the butterfly knife.
