I suspect last night was no different. Its quite infuriating to be honest.

That those of us with a real stake in Oakland are trying to keep the peace and these out-of-town idiots are ruining our moment to grieve and comfort each other is really upsetting.

We have enough troublemakers in Oakland-We don't need out-of-towners coming here doing that.
There is an Offspring song called one fine day that deals with these guys. They are pretty much there just to smash ****, fight with cops and mix it up like its a party.

However, don't forget all the folks just out there looking for some free loot.

I was at the University of Illinois when the firts Rodney King verdict came out. I saw a whole bunch of stealing masquerading as public protest.

Well anyway, by the end of the year there will be 50 more dead Oscar Grants in Oakland except they will be shot by some of the same people running around the streets "protesting" that night. The odds of getting shot by a cop are so much lower than being shot by a guy from 6 blocks over it's crazy and sad all at once.

Obviously those who were just there to loot cannot be ignored. Its a shame that they would take this sad moment as an opportunity to steal.

But its obvious to me that none of that would have happened if those Anarchists hadnt started smashing windows and being unruly.

They totally egged on the crowd and were just waiting for the right moment to start trouble.

On this front, I am happy to say that Oakland is making progress.

I think I may have already said so but I was very impressed by the youth groups from the community that were there. They really stepped up to the plate and were huge instigators of peace. There was a contingency of old ladies(Im guessing a church group) there too and they were talking to people. I had a really great experience and had hoped that it would stay that way.

Still, Im pleased that this didnt spread out into the neighborhoods and that people in East Oakland were so calm. I went down Intl, then back up Macarthur and saw nothing but calm.

I was reading an anarchist website about their plans for the riot, and they had ideas like "dress in yuppie clothes to escape arrest" (could explain the guy in the business suit that got arrested) and were somewhat gleefully hoping for violence from cops so they could retaliate in kind. I was really proud of the way the cops held rank even when people were up in their faces.

I was watching KRON-4 the whole time too, and you could tell they were starting to get bored, and played the clip over and over from the Footlocker.

Sadly yes there will be more murders however they won't be by these idiot hipsters probably from San Francisco that were causing the problems.

I guess what I'm saying is that 1 guy shot by a cop is indeed an outrage....major protests etc. However, there will be 80+ shot this year NOT by a cop but by people in the community. There is a sad irony to this.

That number could go higher when 200 cops are laid off from OPD.

Also, it seems most of the looting was done by LOCAL Oakland residents, not Anarchist:
