So yes, it is a strawman to say that people have not acknowledged that there were opportunistic Oaklanders in the lot, and their behavior is not excused.

Posting a few photos doesn't negate the fact that there were hundreds and hundreds of police arresting those who were inciting violence, and the police reported that most (not all) were from out of town.
Totally agree.

No one is letting Oaklanders off the hook. Obviously those Oaklanders involved should be ashamed of themselves and should be arrested and should have the book thrown at them.

But its obvious to those of us who were there at this event that it was indeed the out of town Anarchists, most of whom were white, who started the violence that gave everyone else license to also start looting. Obviously the Anarchists can't be blamed for Oaklanders who looted, but they should be held accountable for instigating the violence. Most definitely.

Prior to that, it was a peaceful gathering.

No one is saying this is a mandate about all Whites. But the gathering turned sour at the hands of the Whites who were there. These arent normal White people-these are members of a group(ironic how Anarchists belong to an organization(LOL)) who were determined to stir up trouble and they did that.

I haven't seen any major news outlets report that it was all out of town people causing the violence. I also have only seen small local e-blogs saying that it's mostly out of towners being arrested. OPD has an incentive to say it was out of towners causing the violence, otherwise it would paint Oakland in a worse light if it were found out that most of the looting and destruction was indeed caused by locals (which the pictures of videos tend to lean towards).

Also as I said earlier, residents of Oakland would know where to escape and avoid police, making their chance of escape much higher than out of towners. I'm not surprised that many out of towners were caught. They couldn't "melt" into the local populace as easily as these guys:
The comments are weighed towards the white out-of-towners, because that was the primary demographic involved, according to police reports and eyewitness testimony.

It's impossible to ascertain the demographic of every single person involved in a riot - to do so is merely speculation. What can be ascertained however is who was arrested - and if you watched the statements by Dellums and Batts, they announced that most of the arrests were of outsiders fomenting dischord. SFGate is the online newspaper for the San Francisco Chronicle, which is not a 'local e-blog' but a major news-reporting agency.

Yeah because Dellums and Batts have no incentive to say it was "out of towners" right?

I'm guessing that many of the looters, local or otherwise, were arrested - it's hard to be inconspicuous as you're departing a looted storefront with arms full of shoes in front of 15 law enforcement agencies totaling hundreds of cops - they came from all over, including 30 squad cars from Walnut Creek. Others stole the shoes as part of the general chaos, and subsequently burned them in the street.

Those anarchist professional sh*t-stirrers have some serious issues, and in places where they did not show up (such as in LA), the protests were peaceful. Reading their website was like a little peek into the minds of sociopaths, and I feel a little dirtier for the experience.
