Remember for every extra hour of darkness during the winter, you get an extra hour of daylight during the summer. Basic fact. Of course, the further north you go from Seattle, the greater this extreme. Again, basic science.

Some people are tuned to deal with that, others are not. Swinging from 6 hours of daylight to 6 hours of dark is a little odd.

Well, your example is more like Southeastern Alaska than Seattle. And despite some who consider them the same, please study a mileage map. Haines, Alaska to Seattle is about 1,000 miles as the crow flies.

I'm sort of the same way, but I don't mind the rain when it's the typical mizzle. I just don't like it when it's enough to wear my raincoat because then it's inconvenient. Luckily I very rarely have to wear my raincoat.

It's been so dry here that it seemed weird when it rained today.

Don't worry. The rainy season isn't over.

I like KOMO's take on it:

A weather system moving into the Puget Sound region could bring a cornucopia of raindrops overnight, poised to end the relentless 6-hour drought that Seattle has suffered through.

Yay! But Ira, the sun is out again today. What is going on? Is it just because I moved to get away from the sun that it's decided to follow me here and taunt me?

For me, February is the nicest winter month. It is lighter, sunnier, warmer and less rainy than the previous 3 months.
