Been to both, yet it seems that their are many more hippies in seattle and although San Fran has its fair share of hippies it's more culturally diverse with more variety. Seattle seems to be (or at least when I went) 90% coffee shop Hippie Hippie Hippie. What do you think?

Default follow up

Maybe i'm searching for another word, hippie may be out of date. I meant the ones that look like this

(http://iheartseattle.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/hippie_love.jpg (broken link))

you know, the dread lock hair and rebellious way of life. you know the ones against globalization and hate coorperations. They can be found in mom and pop coffee shops. All I'm saying that in san fran their are some of these, yet still a bigger mix of other people. In seattle these people are the majority.
Does anyone agree?

Rob1in I can totally relate to what you're saying. I was completely blown away by the people you're referring to when I first moved here. I see more here by far than any city I ever set foot in. Rob that pic is hilarious.

I wouldn't call them "hippies" but yes, there is a HUGE population of "insert some other label here" within Seattle. Not so much the suburbs.

Strangely enough, or perhaps indicative of something, one of my other favorite cities in
America is also kinda lefty (Ann Arbor, Michigan).

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!

I'm left. I can, on occasion, be angry. Crazy? Subjective.

It's part of Seattle's charm - and if the OP is not interested in that element, it's likely not the place for him/her.

Wow, its really pathetic how some of you stereotype people. If you are implying that Seattle is chalk full of liberal progressives (including academics, artists, professionals, Hipsters, "neo-hippies", etc) you are spot on. Not coincidently, Seattle is also one of the most highly educated and best read cities in America. BTW, that pic of Hempfest is totally decieving - Hempfest draws 100,000+ annually over two days, the worlds largest Cannabis event.

A pleasant climate/environment and educated people, that's why people like Seattle. The crazy lefty regressives (people living out 1960s dreams) are part and parcel of the picture as well.
Wow, Hempfest is even bigger than Ann Arbor's "Hash Bash."

Does it ever rain during Hempfest? If I were a hipster, I would be like "oh man there is too much rain here, we should take this party back to SanFran."

Are there more 'progressives' per capita in Portland or Seattle?
