The money is irrelevant - all those military bases in Texas would bomb you to hell if you tried to leave.

But speaking of money - California is the type of state that VOTES to send money to states like Texas which is doubly stupid if you have such a big problem with states like Texas being a net recipient of federal dollars.

I noted many people, in this thread, seem to be overlooking the significance of "State". Every country is a State. Some countries have provinces; provinces are not states. Maybe if "United States" was called "United Countries" some of the posts in this thread would be written a bit differently. Just sayin', counties within a single state are more a part of that state than California is to the U.S.

as a country, we consist of a union of states.

regardless of what people say about slavery, one (or the main) reason the civil war happened was over STATES RIGHTS issues in relation to the federal government.

there is a reason why laws can vary significantly from one state to the next.

My question is, would this new, independant California institute a mandatory living wage for its vast, mainly Mexican/Central American labor class? I mean, someone still has to clean the pools and pick the oranges.

Also, what to do about the 1/3 of Californians who are actually conservative, patriotic Americans?

most likely those 1/3 (generally speaking tax paying, hard working folks) will take their skills and tax revenue with them to either NV, ID, AZ or elsewhere.

there would certainly be a migration of conservatives leaving, and progressives arriving.

those 1/3 will be replaced by free loaders from the other 49 states eager to join the socialist utopia of the peoples republic of California.

What would be nice is if California could secede and then they wouldn't have to finance the waste of money in Washington DC. You know, like $20,000 for a hammer or millions for jets that can't fly, that sort of thing. You guys would be stuck with all that.

I was gonna add, you'd be stuck with all those slimy politicians, too, but I guess California has enough of its own. *sigh*

I have to say, I've worked with a number of Hispanics and let me tell you, they are hardworking people. I have no idea if the ones I worked with were illegal or not, though.

You get to deal with all the immigrants, illegal and otherwise, from everywhere else, like Somalia, Syria, etc. And be happy the IRA has toned down. For a long time there were a number of illegal immigrants from Northern Ireland to the East Coast, happy to get donations from Americans to send back to the IRA.

I just wanted to wish everyone in California the very best of luck.

I live in Mississippi, and maybe y'all don't know about it, but we tried to leave once.
Man, they whupped th' Dawg-pooky outa us! I mean, whipped us unmercifully. Permanently disfiguring ass-whuppin' is what I'm talking about.

Anyway, sure hope it works out better for you. We still got scars.

see you're wrong.

We won't be dealing with illegal immigrants at all. or refugees. Once Californaia leaves, The other 49 states would be more than glad to NOT deal with them. Once California takes their electoral votes and far fringe left politics with them, the national political spectrum will have made a dramatic shift from left to center right.

in fact, California would have an even greater number of refugees and illegals as they all try to leave the other 49 and head to California where you guys are cool with them.

good luck.

Legal immigration is one thing. Illegal is another. Don't fool yourself into thinking that a coyote bring over a van full of Guatemalan farmers is helping cure cancer. He's flouting our laws and laughing st us.
It's not an immigration thread, but much of the country looks at how to stop illegal immigration. California is more concerned with not scaring off needed immigration. People who use coyotes for illegal transport should really check out the legal avenues. Legal immigration can be obtained from between $20K-$75K.

The area is full of supporting businesses that were started by immigrants. They may not cure cancer, but they might support those that do. Those smart enough to succeed first generation likely have children that do even better.
