Our founders didn't have a problem with loyalty to the government. Far from it, loyalty to legitimate government is woven all though the founding documents. In fact, in many of the earlier documents, they were still loyal to the King, but were trying to point out that the King was not following the laws of his own kingdom (which had been established for a thousand years). What they had a problem with was government trying to control things it was not supposed to (speech, press, assembly, firearms, etc) and taxing people or businesses without allowing representation of the same.
Real brainwashing began in earnest in the 30's in Hollywood, along with establishment of the Communist Party, infiltration into Washington DC, and the public schools system.
