The Vermont Country Store has them. It's expensive but they specialize in things you can't get anymore. I got mine cheaper on ebay--UNopened sheets from the 1980s. I typed in vintage cotton percale twin sheet--and sometimes I typed in one of the old brand names like Springdale. They arrived and are beautiful. It was funny to open something from that long ago that was still in the sealed package. I got a set of yellow top sheet and fitted and another fitted sheet in a pretty bluish and pinkish rabstract rainbow type of color.
Don't get fooled by "mostly cotton" or "no iron percale" because if it's no iron then it probably contains polyester. You want the kind of 100% cotton made in USA sheets that they had before polyester came out. If you see NIP that means New in Package, never even opened. They are out there, probably sheets that someone bought but never got around to opening. And you don't want muslin, you want the percale weave that's strong and smooth and crisp.
Thank you for posting this. Now I can find some good quality old-style sheets.
I recently outfitted all of our beds with Purity Home 300 tc Organic Cotton Percale sheets. I found them online at Walmart.com. Nicely packaged and highly rated (I give them a 5). Deep pocket fitted are avail if needed.
I switched from cotton sheets to flannel year round. I have always been able to get years and years of use out of all my sheets. I loaded up on flannel sheets 3 or so years ago. I got 2-3-4 years out of Martha Stewart very affordable flannel sheets from Macys. I bought a few pairs of the Portugal flannel from BB&B and I am working on those for my bed and my guest beds. I think I used to just always buy high thread count sheets from Macys on their sales (various brands that all seemed to last forever). I'm pretty far out of the loop at this point (and I buy my quilts/comforters from Pottery Barn (have a couple sets in reserve).
I will have to check back with this forum in 10-15 years if I ever need to buy bed linens again.
Interesting that you posted this today because I finally found some sheets I think I will like today at Costco for $79.99 for a king-size set, 680 thread count. I haven't put them on yet, but I will let you know!\\
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread!
Kirkland brand 680 thread count, American-grown, all-Pima cotton, deep pockets, Queen size sheet set with 4 pillowcases costs around $70. If you wait for a sale, $50+. They are the best sheets I have ever found. (King-sized are also available for a bit more.)
This is what I was going to say. I have been very happy with my sheets from Costco!
Second is a silvery purple I got at Bed Bath and Beyond years ago. They matched my new bedding set of comforter and shams. Pima Cotton. Wamsutta brand. Medium weight. BB&B honors their expired coupons also, since I understand they are no longer printing and mailing them. Are they online only?
That's not correct. Not only are they still mailing them, if you don't want to wait for snail mail, you can have them texted to you.
