Went shopping in person yesterday and online today, and I am so frustrated.
All I am looking for is basic good quality old-fashioned cotton sheets that will last for at least a year and have at least enough weight that they are not see-through! I also want a "cool" feel as opposed to a warm feel.
Btw, I was absolutely shocked at the prices! It seems that an average king-size set now sells for between $150 and $200!! The last time I bought sheets that lasted for at least five years was at Kohl's, and I think I paid about $90 for them.
I, too, am looking for a set of sheets (Queen). I checked the labels of my 3 summer sets. Two I love, one is too heavy and I am looking to replace that set.
My favorite is a light pink I got at Dillards years ago. 100% cotton percale. Very light weight for this summer weather. Tried to find the brand online and ebay with no luck.
Second is a silvery purple I got at Bed Bath and Beyond years ago. They matched my new bedding set of comforter and shams. Pima Cotton. Wamsutta brand. Medium weight. BB&B honors their expired coupons also, since I understand they are no longer printing and mailing them. Are they online only?
Set to replace is gray. Purchased at Kohl's couple years ago. 100% cotton. Kohl's brand. These are too heavy for me in this summer weather.
I am avoiding any sheets with polyester. As a kid I remember my older sister loving cotton percale sheets. I have also read that anything over 400 thread count becomes useless in the softness of the sheets (yet this is a selling featue and of course it is more expensive the higher the thread count).
I haven't found any online that I like, ie the color or print. Prices I have found to be acceptable to me IF I find the sheets that meet all my criteria. I just got a flyer/book from Penney's yesterday. They are having their semi-annual "white sale" July 18-24. 35% off if you use your JCP card, 30% off any other way you pay. Online code: HOMESALE. From a whole page of different sheets (8), only 2 brands fit my criteria of size and material. Many were cotton "sateen", which I don' want either. 30% off July 25-August 7.
Kirkland brand 680 thread count, American-grown, all-Pima cotton, deep pockets, Queen size sheet set with 4 pillowcases costs around $70. If you wait for a sale, $50+. They are the best sheets I have ever found. (King-sized are also available for a bit more.)
Simple, average quality sheets still cost about $50-$60. Check in Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, Ikea, Tuesday Morning, Ross for Less, TJMaxx, Marshalls etc.
Maybe first check online about their selection then go to the store to see a particular item.

All of our sheets, flannel for winter, cotton the rest of the year come from Costco. They have all been washed weekly and have lasted several years.
Sometimes you can go on ebay and get the real thing. I got a few sets of vintage unopened cotton percale twin sheets. They're 180 thread count which is what they used to be when cotton was still Made in USA and of high quality. Some good brands are Springmaid and Canon. Just make sure it's 100% cotton and also percale weave.
They last ten years or more.
