Just want to - I think - thank you for this thread.
I love crisp sheets and have a few random top sheets from decades ago that I'm afraid to use but would love to find again. I think they are American Linen with a pink stripe at an edge (I looked about 5 years ago and couldn't find anything then)
Anyway, I was thinking of starting a new thread but found this one last night and went down a rabbit hole. In the past 10 years I've gotten decent sheets from Target (Threshold - but not the same anymore) and Ocean State (really hit or miss, the set I bought over the winter are like velcro and I hate them, plus they are more like queen than full)
I looked at all the links and have settled on a set from Macy's. I'd love to do the VT Country Store but $$$$$. What I really need are bottoms but it's hard to justify a VTCS bottom for more than a Macy's set.
Nothing I wanted was in stock locally at Macy's, JCP (theirs seemed to have a coating I don't want), or Kohls so wish me luck on my Macy's order! I will try to remember to post back.
<edit> My cats are what prematurely kills my bottom sheets. The crisper they are, the more fun they have on them! I try to make the bed on the sly but my girl has bionic ears. It's for this reason I can't justify sheets that are expensive no matter how perfect they may be otherwise.
I ended up buying some from Costco. I think I paid only about $70 for the set, and I really like them, but I don't remember the thread count or any details Sorry!

I saw that! I don't belong to any of the membership clubs so I didn't even entertain that one.
I got the Macy's set today. If anyone looked, they are a lower count percale. I paid under $40 (think I got free shipping), right now they are "on sale" for $60
I immediately tossed them in the wash (twice) and changed the bed. Ugh! One pillowcase has a hole. Certainly not the end of the world as I have a ton of pillowcases, but I opened a chat to see if I could at least get a credit for it. Agent tells me they are sending out a new set (nice!) then I get a return label. Well I'm not taking them off the bed tonight!
Anyway, they are not as crisp as I hoped. The description says crisp and there were enough reviews stating rough, not smooth and wrinkled that I figured I'd take a chance. I will see how they feel sleeping but I'm thinking that going under 200 count made them too fragile.
Macy's had decent looking 200 count ones but the ones I got were organic with a couple of certifications so that's why I went for them instead.
Go to MyPillow.com and order up sheets from there. They've got very deep pockets, and go on the tallest of mattresses.
We have them for all our beds.
