I want to know what was soccer like in Kansas city, Salt lake or Denver before MLS teams joined?? i think the MLS teams is helping with the growth of soccer in these areas. I think with more expansion MLS will be a nationwide sport.

would love to see promotion and relegation. It would take the sport national and creature soccer culture. It would bring in a lot of fans across the country and differentiate soccer from other American sports.

At a professional level, Kansas City had a soccer history with the Spurs from NASL and then the Comets/Attack in indoor. The Comets in the 80s were a hot ticket. In 1984, they had the high attendance average among all indoor professional sports teams including the NBA and NHL. But, it was a fad that faded away just like NASL.

Kansas City has always been one of the youth soccer hotbeds with one of the highest participation rates in the country.

However, as part of mainstream culture and acceptance, it is something that has only come on the last few years with Sporting becoming popular and other big time soccer events coming to town.

I doubt we ever see it and if we do, it will be years and year away. No owner is going to allow a system that could see their team move down to a lower division when they arent yet seeing profits. Some teams would end up folding if it were implemented now and they were moved down. Once the league gets to the point where they are earning modest profits and fans would be more accepting and loyal for a relegated team, it could be implemented but my money would be on it never happening.
