I have lived in Louisville, KY all of my life and I just recently accepted a position out in the STL area. I am a young female professional at the ripe ole age of 26 I have done a little research and found that the ideal locations are CWE and Washington Avenue. I am willing to pay $800-$1,000 per month for a loft/condo/etc. (Preferably furnished with a balcony and also including safe parking).

Suggestions?!

If you haven't yet, be sure to check out Craigslist. With the Central West End, while doable on your budget, don't expect anything super fancy. The heart of the neighborhood commands some super premium prices! Also note that folks love to stretch the boundaries of the neighborhood -- feel free to check with us if you have questions!

Downtown apts are newer and the neighborhood, while lovely, less established, and, as such, will typically be nicer for your money.

Here's a few I found on a quick CL search:

DISCOUNTED 2b/2b in CWE!All electric,FREE GATED parking!Ground floor!! (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/apa/2817339036.html - broken link)
Laurel Apartments are now OPEN!! (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/apa/2818983423.html - broken link)
One bedroom with BALCONY available now at Ely Walker Lofts. Call NOW!! (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/apa/2807974263.html - broken link)
Beautiful furnished loft for lease (http://stlouis.craigslist.org/apa/2817472210.html - broken link)

Awesome! I appreciate the research! Quick question: If I am going to have to drive to the Earth City UPS hub, which highway would be best to use to get there? I honsetly have no clue about St.Louis....hopefully soon that will all change =)

^If you live downtown you'll likely just take I-70 all the way out unless there's an accident. If there's an accident or if you live in CWE you'd be more likely to take I-64 (essentially all locals still call this Hwy 40 so don't get confused!) west and then I-170 (the innerbelt) north to I-70.

Fantastic- I'm sure I will get lost for the first month or so but that's all part of moving to a new place, I suppose.

If you, or anyone else, ever have any more suggestions I am open to the options that the city has to offer.

Thanks again for your help

If you wanted something still safe but a touch more eclectic and/or cheap I would look at the U City Loop area and Tower Grove South.

Easiest way to keep your bearing in St Louis is to know where the river is relative to where you are. Kind of like living near the ocean, it gives you a nice easy reference point.

lol-I'm prepared to be the same way. Actually, the job that I accepted will have my traveling all over the plains district (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansa). I will never let my GPS leave my side!
