My son just got a job in St. Louis which begins Jan. 4. We live in southern Illinois and are not that familiar with the St. Louis area.

His job location is at the intersection of I270 and Manchester. As an unmarried male he is not concerned with school districts and other such things that concern married folks. He would just like a nice apartment/condo not too far from his work location and in a safe area. He also enjoys running so an area conducive to that activity would be a plus.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

270 and Manchester is a very safe area, there are a lot of apartment complexes around that intersection.

How old is he, and where in southern Illinois are you coming from? What kind of environment does he want?

270/Manchester is safe, sure, but also typical suburbia where his shopping will be done at Wal Mart and a good meal is at Chili's. If he is coming from a small town and wants an urban experience, we could recommend neighborhoods all day.

He's 23 years old, from Carbondale, Il and is graduating from SIUC in Information Technology. Give him a fast computer hookup and he will be happy, at least for a while. He's going to work for Suddenlink. I doubt that he has thought about whether or not he wants an urban experience. He just wants to make some money for now.

Kirkwood would be an obvious place to look if he wants to be close to work.

I guess it all depends on his personality.

So you know, I am 24 from Benton, IL, and graduated from SIUC in Information Technology in 2007. I first lived in Fairview Heights, IL and have lived in the city for a year and a half.

I would recommend looking in the city according to his profile. Dogtown or the Hill for starters and only a 20 minute commute. The 270 and Manchecter area is fine but he may get a little bored after a while.
