Most White Texans will say Texas is part of the South.
Most Blacks Texans will overwelmingly say Texas is Southern.
Most hispanics Texans will say Texas is Southwestern.

I know no black Texans who consider it part of the southwest. Many blacks from central texas cities will claim their region is its own thing before theyll lump themselves in with the southwest.

2 out of those 3 groups view Texas as predominately southern.

Have you got a count yet on those angels dancing on the point of that pin?

Texas is not the South, though there are many influences.

Texas is not the Southwest, though there are many similarities.

Texas is - wait for it - Texas!

The Panhandle is part of the Great Plains, like Oklahoma. Texas is so big it goes into 3 regions.

Looking at a map of the Lower 48 United States, Texas is located in the South Central United States.

When Texas first became one of the United States, it was located in the Southwest part of the United States.

Texas has many influences from it's surrounding regions. These are all approximate boundaries, but the way I see it, it's Mostly a Deep South influence east of I-35 and I-37.

Mostly Mexican influence South of I-10 and west of I-35 and I-37.

Mostly Western influence north of I-10 and west of I-35.

Yes, and that's why Texas is neither the Southwest nor the South.

Bingo.

Honestly, I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp!

I disagree, I think it's more location-based. East Texans / Houstonians will overwhelmingly say Southern. West Texans will say Southwestern. San Antonians / Austinities could go either way, but will lean Southwestern. DFW is right on the edge. (Dallas is probably Southern, Fort Worth Southwestern).

I think the answer is neither. Texas is its own region and it's a transition zone between the south, the southwest, the great plains, and Mexico.
