I'll address your comments in order:

Yes, it's very warm here - almost year round. Summer is unbearably hot and humid for me.

There are quite a few RV campgrounds and mobile home parks but I don't know anything about them, sorry.

What city is your work in? You could do well with a budget of $900 a month... But again, which city will you be in?

Safety -- as long as you don't mixed up with the wrong people and don't flash your money around and stay in the good areas of town, you'll be alright.

Where in NY did your wife grow up? Is she used to a large metropolitan area? If so, she might not enjoy the Valley too much. I've always lived in cities with populations of over a million people and coming to the Valley was a shock to me, culturally and as far as what's available to do in my spare time. If you like to fish or hunt, you'll enjoy the area.
