There's not that many trees along the roads in Houston. If there is they are still sapplings. The older retail is very prominent. Perhaps as a visitor you don't notice the trees for the other stuff.

I like how in the Dallas area they are removing a lot of the old retail along the Airport Freeway to clean the area up and start fresh with the new construction there.
I found 2 pictures which portray what Central Expressway looks like from above those pretty noise retaining walls. The difference is you can see all of the strip centers above you instead of off to the side like in Houston.

The most Houston-ish area of Dallas freeway is I-35E North of 183. or I-30 East of downtown.

They had to demolish that old retail on the airport freeway due to something called eminent domain.

The huge number of strip clubs down I45 randomly placed all the way to Galveston beats a casket store. I swear there's one strip mall with a strip club and a Babies R Us in it, but maybe they are just really close together but not in the exact same one.

The giant bridge over a pond in The Woodlands is great too. It's probably where Dallas got the idea to put the giant bridge over the Trinity River.

oh and Dallas has two more bridges up their sleeve! The downtown horseshoe project starting this year will bring those on I-30 and I-35E downtown.

It is amazing that Txdot is bending over backwards for some DFW fluff projects when a bridge between Galveston and Bolivar has been sorely needed for years, and that bridge would have so much more commercial and logistic value.
