I think Astroworld died because it was in a pretty bad part of town to begin with. It was a ghetto playground full of teens who didn't know how to act right. People didn't want to go there anymore and it was cheaper to Six Flags in the long haul to shut down and sell the land instead of operate the park. It's too bad, because I enjoyed going, growing up in the early 90s. The park just became increasingly unpleasant after that.

No room to expand didn't help either. Earth Quest Adventures in NE Houston is going to be much better.

Well the subject of this thread is Houston VS Dallas........why are you even mentioning Chicago? Kind of pointless dont you think?? Go figure!

I don't think there are any Olive Gardens in Dallas -- maybe out on NW Highway. We have very few chains and most won't patronize the few that are here.-

Very few chains in Dallas?

It feels like the complete opposite from FW to Arlington.

You guys (DFW) are definitely littered with one of the worst TexMex chains, though... El Chico. YUCK! Won't find that in Houston!

There are chains outside of town..El Chico is not bad here - it used to be better (long history starting in Corsicana), we had the oldest one here in Lakewood before they converted it to a Cantina Laredo -- everyone was miffed but they kept Paul, who has worked there for 50 years.

Forgive me Guerilla .....I was totally unaware it had closed. I moved to Denver in 2004, and back here to Dallas in 06......when I was in Houston, in August I didnt even head in the Astroworld direction.
Well if it has closed I guess infact it had gotten worse.....so bad that it closed.
Thanks for the update.
