This season was a little more gritty than most of the other seasons. Less babies being born and more medical things. The storyline with the young girl and Hodgkins disease was so sad.
It's such a well done show - you're so invested in the characters. Was very happy for the storyline involving Sheila and the Dr (can't think of his name right now!).
Also, very selfless of Nurse Crane to allow that other love match to bloom!
I'm just finishing up season 4 and was surprised that Jenny Lee wasn't in it. I didn't want to read this thread past S4 because there might be spoilers, but I'm wondering if Jenny comes back at any point?

No. I believe that the Jenny saga ends at the point where the book ends, along with the true stories from the memoir. The rest of the show consists of completely fictional stories and new fictional characters (although some of the original ones remain). I really enjoyed the initial seasons the most, but the remaining seasons are also very, very good. Stick it out.

TY for the info. I miss Jenny, but it is still pretty good.
For those of you who love Chummy, the actress who plays her has a hilarious show called "Miranda." It's great for times like this when you want a laugh.

She was a major standup comedian first. Miranda was her Roseanne standup to sitcom show, Generation X's Tracy Ulman. You can find her in many different entertainment formats.

Oh, I'm a huge fan of Miranda Hart - she is even an author (and she's hilarious in that format too!). She's a trip.
Well last night's season premiere was excellent as always. I wonder if nurses & nuns from that era were really so non-judgmental. Maybe it was different in England but I can't quite get over how there is no judgement regarding unwed mothers, a woman leaving her newborn in a trash can, interracial marriages, homosexuality, a brother & sister who are like husband and wife, etc. when you consider this is the late 60's, early 70's in a place known for being prim & proper.
It's still one of the most well written shows on TV today. The storylines always make me cry, whether happy tears or sad ones.
I love this show, I watched the first 8 seasons over the last few months. I forgot what happened to Chummy in the series, what was the story line of how she left? I really liked her!
I watched the previous seasons on NetFlix and last night on PBS. Are Christmas shows the beginning of the season or the last show of the season, if you can understand my question. I'm wondering if I missed the Christmas show for season 9.
When does the new season start on NetFlix? I realized I'd rather watch this on my laptop than on my TV.
Thanks!
