It didn't yet say how they kept him alive or even really why--which was another question they raised in this episode: What's so special about Coulson? They really only revealed that it wasn't a pleasant vacation in Tahiti.
My hubby and I were talking about this today. It's clear that Joss isn't really involved because, while the characters are defined (the geeks, the muscle, the loner) they do not project strong personalities. In fact while we were talking hubby realized he couldn't even give the names of all the characters. They were just not that memorable.
11 episodes into it and do you know which is Fitz and which is Simmons? How about the first names of anyone besides Skye and Coulson?
By the 11th episode of Buffy we knew and were invested in all the main characters. That's why it's clear Joss isn't involved. The only reason any of us are watching it is because of Coulson and the storyline they are building around him. And maybe only because we want to see how it may or may not tie into the movies.

Who agrees?
I think part of what is a problem for me is that MAOSHIELD is trying to make the story about the revelation of the characters. Each episode seems to me mostly about learning a bit more about this character, learning a bit more about that character...more than being about story or even an interesting premise. I'm not finding that very gripping.

Each episode seems to be about developing one or more of the main characters + a mission of the week. When they concentrate on one, the other suffers. I really wish they'd scrap the whole "our mission of this week is..." and just concentrate on an ongoing story.
I enjoyed tonight's episode. I like when they show the story from different angles like that. Poor Skye! Mike has turned into one creepy guy. His role is going to be interesting but how will his son react if he sees him, he is pretty scary looking.
i assumed skye was gonna spit the bullets out given that she's an object of unknown origin
I figured something would happen related to that as well - maybe not bullet spitting, but turning into the She-Hulk or some other potential heroine.
Liked Coulson and Simmons on the train together as father & daughter, then Stan Lee scolding him...
