"Turns out that the "letter" that Boehner received that has changed his mind
was written by a REPUBLICAN operative in MIssissippi. Mark Henry is the
letter's author and he is a former GOP county chairman in Mississippi and
former chief of staff to the Republican Governor of that state Phil Bryant. In
a good old fashioned bit of cronyism, Bryant appointed Henry to the Mississippi
Department of Employment Security.
Here is one of Henry's quotes from Facebook: "Ted Cruz gutsy conservative
and constitutional. Sarah Palin same thing just a fine woman. Michelle bachman
another good conservative."
So, to sum it all up, Boehner has a Republican hack in one of the poorest
states in America manufacture a reason for him to throw the unemployed to the
wolves.

And if Reid wanted it passed, he'd have insisted the House start and present a bill they support, just as the order of business has beeen for ages now.
Instead, Reid got a bill passed that he knew was DOA all along. That delayed further any potential deal.

That is such a BS. Sorry. The man at least TRIED. What about the other side that are blocking in every chance they get. If they did not try to block we would not have Ben in such a mess and Dems would have passed it without a problem. Come on.

He tried to use it as a wedge issue, he did not try to pass a bill which stood a real shot.
The nonpartisan Congressional Research Service in February*reviewed*all 11 extensions in emergency federal unemployment payments since President George W. Bush signed off on the program amid a sour economy in 2008. Here are the times when the federal benefits, which averaged $318 a week in Ohio, ran out and Congress and the president ordered them restarted retroactively because of high unemployment.
* Feb. 27, 2010: Emergency benefits expired. A short extension was passed and signed by President Barack Obama days later, on March 2, 2010, and made retroactive.
* April 3, 2010: Emergency benefits expired again. An short extension was passed and signed April 15, and beneficiaries collected their lapsed benefits retroactively.*
* May 29, 2010: Emergency benefits expired yet again. (Notice a pattern?) It took Congress some time to agree on paying for another extension, which was finally passed and signed on July 22, 2010, nearly eight weeks later -- but the benefits were made retroactive to May 30.*
* November 27, 2010: Emergency benefits expired once more. Nearly three weeks later, on Dec. 17, 2010, Congress passed and the president signed an extension and made it retroactive.
The nearly eight-week lapse in mid-2010 is likely to draw the most comparisons now. If benefits were made retroactive then, why can't it be done again?*
Eight weeks is shorter than the 12 week that now have passed since federal benefits last expired. How much harder would it be?
