Since he accused me of being a "jumped up yank" despite the fact that I make no secret of the fact that I am a British expat, including in my original post, I must say that I share the same doubts as you.
I don't hate the US, I just feel strongly that regulation is a necessary evil. I admire that the EU at least does its best to regulate food additives, which is something that you and I as average Joes have zero control over otherwise.
I just find it odd that you chose the US as your example. The US and EU ban many things from other countries. America bans EU stuff too
Americans seem to think every country outside the US is poor. Go to the politics forum. Oh Greece is poor, oh spain is poor etc. Despite both having longer life expectancies and lower infant mortality than the US.
I admit, american cities look impressive from afar, but up close, they all look like war zones, Detroit especially, but all of them to some extent. Their highways too, look impressive from a distance. Up close, potholed and decrepit.
Trying to reason with a yank is impossible though. Theyre all indoctrinated to think they are special.
Indoctrinated...? Funny.
Just like this thread, the world seems to be obsessed with the US, so I'm not surprised that America thinks it's special.

I wouldn't read too much into what 'LAWS' says. It's way past his bedtime back in Blighty. I sincerely hope that he doesn't speak for the current crop of British young people, because if he does, Britain is doomed!
There could be many factors at play though. Many European nations tend to smoke & drink more than their American counterparts. Smoking is one of the leading causes of cancer.
I don't know why living in Denmark would give you the urge to smoke. I would just cycle a lot and enjoy the beer, temperate climate and socialism.
Excuses, excuses. Why do you have all these excuses for EU nations and none for the US..hmm...?
Those stats show the US has less cancer rates than many EU countries, and that it's unfair and incorrect to make it seem as though the US has cancer problems far greater than the EU.
