Britain is currently negotiating to join the CPTPP, which will mean total free trade with Australia and NZ, including beef.

As for farming, it accounts for 0.5% of UK GDP, which is around the same level as what the UK gives away in Foreign Aid, which fishing accounts for a mere 0.03% of total UK economic output.

I totally agree.

The current budget will protect the nations services and vulnerable until the global economy improves, and increased science and research spending is also very welcome.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has publicly also dismissed claims the government want a 'Swiss-style' agreement with the EU, however that won't stop the media from printing more nonsense.

On Sunday, Downing Street “categorically” denied it was seeking a Swiss-style relationship with the EU, whilst the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, stated that he wanted to see the “vast majority” of trade barriers between Britain and the EU removed, but did not say how that might be achieved.

Hunt's aides said deals with the EU could be struck under the framework of the existing “bare bones” Brexit deal — the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) — struck by former prime minister Boris Johnson.

It should be noted that Switzerland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and although I don't champion the Swiss model, I do agree that TCA negotiations could add some flesh to the bare nones deal, and could help reduce any remaining trade barriers.

government spokesperson continued: “Brexit means we will never again have to accept a relationship with Europe that would see a return to freedom of movement, unnecessary payments to the European Union or jeopardise the full benefit of trade deals we are now able to strike around the world.”

Prime minister tells CBI conference he would block any move requiring UK to align with EU laws.

"On trade, let me be unequivocal about this. Under my leadership, the United Kingdom will not pursue any relationship with Europe that relies on alignment with EU laws.

Now I voted for Brexit. I believe in Brexit and I know that Brexit can deliver, and is already delivering, enormous benefits and opportunities for the country – migration being an immediate one, where we have proper control of our borders and are able to have a conversation with our country about the type of migration that we want and need.

When it comes to trade, it means that we can open up our country to the world’s fastest growing markets. I’ve just got back from the G20 in Indonesia. We’re talking about signing CPTPP, where we’ve got some of the most exciting, fastest-growing economies in the world, and we can become a part of that trading bloc. That’s a fantastic opportunity for the UK.

Or indeed regulation … We need regulatory regimes that are fit for the future that ensure that this country can be leaders in those industries that are going to create the jobs and the growth of the future. And having the regulatory freedom to do that is an important opportunity of Brexit.

And that’s my agenda. And I’m confident that that agenda is not only right for the country, but can deliver enormous benefit for people up and down the UK in the years to come."

In terms of the EU, it's currently looking to respond to Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, along with US subsidies and protectionism, in what could turn in to a transatlantic trade war.

BERLIN/PARIS — Germany and France pushed Tuesday for tougher industrial policies such as more state subsidies for European businesses to counter the threat from U.S. reforms that risk triggering a transatlantic trade war.

The EU’s two leading economies put aside their bad blood of the past weeks to issue a joint statement vowing to "explore industrial policy possibilities" to safeguard European industries from discriminatory trade measures from Washington and also Beijing.

The declaration, which comes after two days of high-level ministerial meetings in Paris — including French President Emmanuel Macron inviting German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Economy Minister Robert Habeck to the Elysée Palace — signals an escalation of European efforts to protect home-grown manufacturing from the threat of unfair competition from the U.S.

Paris and Berlin are increasingly frustrated that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration is showing little interest in addressing their concerns about the Inflation Reduction Act, a $369 billion package of subsidies and tax breaks to boost American green businesses. From a European perspective, the American act is a protectionist measure because it encourages companies to shift investments from Europe and incentivises customers to "Buy American" when it comes to purchasing an electric vehicle.

US and UK announced an "energy partnership" to continue trade in LNG next year. US will ship 9-10 billion cubic meters of LNG to the UK in 2023. About the same as 2022, but up from 4b in 2021. Currently, the US is constrained in its capacity to export, due to lack of infrastructure. The US will also in 2022 export 50 bcm to the EU. US LNG prices are significantly lower than EU prices. A friend, in need, is a friend indeed.

There have been and still are, attempts by Republicans to ban the export of US oil and gas, after Obama lifted decades old restrictions in 2015.

The Biden administration has facilitated more shipments of LNG by approving additional export volumes at future and existing terminals, angering environmental groups, which oppose the expansion of fossil fuels, and some industrial interests , which want more gas on the U.S. market to make prices cheaper.
