some places in argentina can get pretty dangerous during carnival, but where i was, it was just rowdy. one of the traditions in jujuy is to soak people as often as you can, and as the resident americans, we were hit by water balloons, squirt guns, and buckets of water from the backs of vehicles and the tops of buildings.

other traditions include throwing raw eggs and flour at you.

either way, i had a lot of ties ruined that week...

Wow that is rowdy. I will have to ask my son that went to Argentina about that. He was robbed three times while riding a bus with him companion but I don't think it was around carnival time.

that sucks. i was almost mugged once, but i managed to (obliviously) talk my way out of it. i think i scared them off when i asked if i could come over to their houses and talk about Jesus.

yeah, the reason that they throw flour is because it sticks to the raw egg that you now have all over you; makes a nice gooey plaster. they don't do it to be mean though; they all think that it is funny. i'll admit to throwing a bit myself...

That reminds me of this one missionary...he was sooo young, and just new to his mission. He was saying he couldn't wait to go to Ogden, cause he'd heard stories about missionaries getting spit on and harrassed there!

yeah, some people are pretty naive. i was waaaaaay naive when i was right outta high school. but the mission, the military, marriage, and a few other things have really helped me wake up since then.

Aaron, between the cracker slips and the camp chair fight, I am really worried about you.

Dare I ask how a camp chair made it as high as your left eye??

well, it is complicated (or, i have to believe that it is in order to soothe my blood blistered ego).

i was crouched in my basement, waiting for my daughter to turn the corner so that i could scare her (she likes it, i promise; it's a game we play).

when she turned the corner, i launched myself at her, somehow missing the fact that the camp chair was between us. i ended up headbutting the leg rest with my eyeball.

needless to say, my eyeball did not win that fight.

katie thought that it was hilarious.
