Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for fine dining in Utah for a special occasion. Has anyone tried La Caille ? I have heard the grounds are beautiful but the food is not very good. How does it compare to the Metropolitan? What about some of the places up in the canyons such as the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant?

We've actually been to a couple of surprisingly good places in SLC recently. Bambara, in the Hotel Monaco, and Baxter's American at the Depot, both offer stylish, hip decor and tasty, well-prepared contemporary American food. Baxter's is a little more casual and a little more affordable

Being BYU and U of U educated (vs Yale and Princeton), I can’t afford much fine dining, so I can’t be much help you to you there. But you are welcome to join my family at Golden Corral this Saturday

La Caille, if I recall correctly, had beautiful grounds, buxom serving wenches, and mediocre, overpriced food. I haven't been there in a while, though. You might like Log Haven up Millcreek Canyon.

I love Texas Roadhouse, but it is always such a zoo there...I hate having to wait two hours for a table!

Is that the upscale buffet? I've heard good things about it...BTW, the Grand America has a brunch to die for!

Little America's breakfast, across the street, is also quite good.

I have NOT been to La Caille...my neighbor who just got an awesome job, a friend who's H is coming home from Iraq soon, and us keep saying when we're all getting 100K we're gonna go.

HOWEVER...almost every restaurant recommended to me by a utahn has been disappointing. Ever been to Robintino's in Bountiful? EVERYONE raves about it, both there and where I live now...and every weekend the parkinglot there is overflowing. Uh, the place sucks. We've been there twice (not by choice, by invitation), and wow was it bad. Same with this little Argentina pizza that is now gone, and others.

Sooooo, I'm not putting much stock in La Caille's rep! Their grounds, however, are impressive!

We're always looking for a non-franchise good restaurant. Have mostly found just ethnic places, good, but certainly not "fine dining".
