I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks in Bennington, and at least for the time being, I'm going to be living in NYS and working in Vermont.

Can anyone help me out in regards to places to move for two young professionals near Bennington? (I'm engaged to be married in the next year, so I have to worry about my fiancee as well.)

Thanks!

Any information is helpful.

Well if you want to live in a nice small New England town, I'd encourage you to look at Williamstown. Massachusetts, about 15 minutes south. I haven't been there in years, but I remember it being pretty nice.

Bennington is nice...is there a reason it's out of the picture living wise?
Ditto on Williamstown,MA.
If you want to stay in NYS, Brunswick would not be too bad of a commute.

Bennington may be out of the picture to live right in town because my fiancee works for Verizon Wireless, and she could only transfer to like Pittsfield, which I guess is a 30-minute drive. (maybe more?) She could transfer to Rutland, but the distance between Bennington and Rutland is like 50 miles.

Do you mean that she could transfer to Pittsfield, MA or Pittsfield, VT? Big difference!

If she possibly was going to work in Bennington, VT & Rutland, VT, then Dorset/Manchester is in the middle -- quite lovely but pricey.

I would assume PIttsfield, MA, as you know there is not much in Pittsfield, VT!
Manchester is a good halfway spot between Rutland & Bennington, though it's a resort town.
If your SO ends up working in Pittsfield, then Williamstown, MA would be a great choice.
Good luck!!

Right you are! Though I think I'd rather live in Pittsfield, VT than Pittsfield, MA. Well, except that you could live in Lenox, MA, and I do love Kripalu Center, so there's that.

Dorset and Danby are a little more homey than Manchester, which seems to be home to mainly fancy stores and (very large) second homes. And there are some locally-oriented activities going on even in Manchester. Manchester has a holistic veterinarian who has a stellar reputation, getting raves from humans and animals: http://www.doctorstephanie.com/index.aspx (broken link)

I agree. Williamstown meets my need for a small town with plenty of cultural offerings: not too big, not too small, but just right.
