Kees, you don't have to rationalize your XB1 purchase to us but please be mature enough to admit that you're out of touch with the will of this forum as proven by the results of the poll. Also, the PS4 has a healthy 600,000 unit lead already on the XB1 and it hasn't even launched in its home market of Japan yet.
You're right, I don't have to... and I am plenty mature enough to realize that the results of this forum poll mean absolutely nothing. I could go pull up a poll at XB1fanboi.com and it wouldn't mean much either.

So the PS4 has a 600,000 unit lead on the XB1? Quote your source? Here's one I found... Is Sony’s PlayStation 4 Really Outselling Microsoft’s Xbox One 2-to-1? Who Knows. | TIME.com That says 100,000... as if it matters anyway. It also says the XB1 has higher US sales...

Are you saying that the PS4 is the best system based on foreign sales numbers?

Both systems have their perks. To say one is overwhelmingly better than the other is false. To say that the $100 price difference is some conspiracy by Microsoft to overcharge for their system is also false. The $100 is for the Kinect... don't want it, don't buy it.

Going with? So you don't even own a PS4 yet either? You are just blowing smoke on something you know nothing about? Really?

I went with the XB1 for the same reasons... the games I want are XB1 exclusive other than MLB 14: The Show which will have me buying a PS4 in March. You couldn't convince me to buy a PS4 now because the games just aren't there... the lineup is weak. I have faith they'll get MLB done right because they always do. Do us a favor though... quit using the term "better value." You get what you pay for... If the XB1 didn't include Kinect it would also be $399.

It's interesting to note that the Wii U has still outsold both the XB1 and PS4.

That's a whole lotta Nintendo fanbois.

Not that I blame them... I've been a fan since the NES. I sold my Wii U a few weeks ago. My ex gave it to her son for Christmas. I think I turned the system on like 6 times in the 9 months I owned it. After Super Mario U there just wasn't much else that interested me. I did pick up a few classics like F-Zero and Punch Out but that was about it... She gave me pretty much full retail price ($275) so it wasn't a hard choice.

Will probably pick up another later in 2014 when there are more games that I am interested in... like Mario Kart. I actually got notice today that the system has dropped to $249 in some locations.

On a side note, she got him Super Mario 3D World and I played it yesterday. It was very good. I'll definitely be picking it up but probably not before I pick up the PS4 and MLB.

XBI doesn't have component out, only HDMI.

You could go with HDMI to DVI adapter but I'm not sure about the audio...

Sony KE-42TS2 42" HDTV-ready Plasma Wega™ TV at Crutchfield.com

Here's the TV manual...

http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...8/15832TS2.PDF

The XB1 has S/PDIF out but looked at the manual for the TV and don't see the input.

However...

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2182021

That thread mentions S/PDIF to 3.5mm adapters so you may be able to get it to work. Check HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more! - Monoprice.com they have every cable known to man.

On a side note... look back at the TV link... $3299?!?!? Wow! LOL

I love when these fanboi threads get in it with the numbers. Miley Cyrus sells millions but it doesn't mean she's actually any good. I'm sure there were more Hyundai Elantras sold than Lexus IS cars, but it doesn't make Hyundai the better car.

Most Americans are reactionary or impulsive buyers. "Cheaper? Sure! That means me some less credit card debt!!!" The outrage over the release details for both systems was laughable. Really? Judge a system based on an hour presentation? There's always something in this country to remind us how stupid people really are.

Nearly everyone is not going to have two systems on two separate TVs next to each other playing the game at the same time pausing momentarily to compare graphics, which is basically why NEARLY ALL ARTICLES comparing graphics said the comparison is moot. I love this argument because it reminded me of a comedy video where people took an iPhone without retina display and one with it to the streets and passerbys got it wrong most of the time. Plus, you have to remember, the systems were both built with the same graphic capabilities, just how to achieve them via game development is different. If a game isn't 1080p, don't blame the console. Don't even blame the game developers. It's hard to work thoroughly on a game with pressing timelines and constantly changing hardware variables, not to mention all of the other countless variables that neither side may be allowed to discuss because of NDAs.

Xbox One is an all-in-one. PS4 is a gaming system with slight all-in-one capabilities. We should stop the arguments saying that Sony has focused more on gaming with their higher hardware specs. Do you even know how powerful Azure is? It's practically Microsoft's enterprise powerhouse for 2014 and beyond. Read up, you'll find it interesting. And the old argument that PS4 does just games so that means they focused more resources on gaming is such a lame argument. You're assuming they spent the same on both systems...

System selection comes down to the following:

1. OS/Environment
2. Controller
3. Friends

1. What do you have accounts on? What services do you like to use? Which interfaces are more preferred? I'm in IT and get asked for advice on phones and tablets all of the time, especially the Android vs. Apple argument. The first question I ask is the most important: which are you used to?
2. The PlayStation controllers always gave me cramps and hurt my hands. Probably because ethnocentric Japanese companies based their original designs on research in Japan. Microsoft based theirs in the UK and US. It is more comfortable to me. What's more comfortable to you? You ARE going to be holding it 98% of the time while using the console...
3. What do most of your friends play? Of the friends that you actually like ( ), which system do they own?

Both systems were rushed. That's only because no representative from Sony sat down with a representative from Microsoft and agreed on a timeline. They were working with invisible deadlines. It's normal in competitive tech markets.

Oh, and Playstation folks who also have a desktop PC, Microsoft is just backdooring their way back into the PC market. Note the Windows 8 similarities. Eventually those desktops will be a tiny niche market (and business machine). Get ready for some very familiar apps showing up on Microsoft consoles...

Consoles are like fine wine: better with age. Be patient and both will be pretty damn good in the future. In the meantime, for me at least, "Xbox On".

Sources: I was an IT director who would pump info from sales reps and associates to get some inside scoops. It was fun and I even got to see a few pieces of hardware I wasn't even allowed to talk about until release!

Apparently you need a HDTV to work on these two newest game consoles which is unfortunate cause I myself don't have one of these HDTVs. Many of the older game consoles are only playable with the CRT tube style televisions which is all I have.

Let's hope you can get a new TV and upgrade to NextGen soon. Remember, the best TV prices of the year are right before the Super Bowl.

One thing to remember is that PS3 only output digital via HDMI (or DVD-D through an adapter) with HDCP even for games. Xbox360 and Wii U do not output gameplay through HDMI with HDCP, I can't confirm or deny whether Xbox One or PS4 do so, I have no non-HDCP compliant display devices.

However if the TV listed does not support HDCP (and all signs point to it not, as it doesn't state it is, and Sony only state all HDMI equipped displays do), then at best you're going to be restricted to 480p at worst you'll get no image at all (it will be scrambled, and not like the 70's cable porn either where you can kind of make out what's happening) if PS4 follows PS3's standard, however if XB1 follows X360's standard you should be able to view in 720p/1080i. So that's something to bear in mind. Neither system has an analog video output.

If you buy an adapter make sure it's an HDMI to DVD-D, not HDMI->DVI-I (which is singularly useless but available since DVI-I is analog, and HDMI is digital).
