Yeah I saw the Jumbotron when I passed by over the weekend. I heard about the transportation system at one of their community meetings. They also plan to use it or some type of charter bus to get people back and forth from the metro (different from what the harbor has currently).

I agree. I know that there is some plan to use it as a part of their movies on the Potomac deal but I don't think it needed to be permanent.

Yeah. They didn't think that one through. Or, have one that comes up out of the ground for concerts and movies. Now that would be sweet!

Although not directly related, its impact is definitely is. Their cancelling of this project will ensure that two Tangers will not be competing for the same market. Although Simon's project may present a challenge it could prove beneficial and encourage Tanger to expand their footprint at the National Harbor by adding more stores either across the street by MGM or somewhere nearby (similar to what they did in NY).

Hmmm....I don't know if I agree with Marion on this one. It seems to me that extending a street car through Anacostia to the NH (and indirectly AlexVA) would benefit DC and generate more revenue to and from those directions. He seems a little short sighted but that is just my thought. Yours?

But if D.C. Councilman Marion Barry has his way, there will be no Anacostia
streetcar line to extend to Prince George's County. The streetcar will run 2.2
miles along H Street NE and Benning Road, and that will be that.

It is "the most ill-planned, poorly conceived streetcar in America," the Ward
8 councilman said Tuesday during a DDOT budget oversight hearing, and the more
than $800 million Mayor Vincent Gray has set aside in his proposed six-year
capital plan for the build-out of the initial 22-mile streetcar network could
be better spent.

I saw that. Though I don't think the Simon property will cause too much of an impact on Tanger. If anything, Potomac Mills would be the direct competitor to Tanger. Of course Potomac Mills is the old style outlet mall. I think Tanger has its benefits for being more accessible to the DMV areas. The same goes with MGM as opposed to Maryland Live!. Tanger is simply in a more densely populated area than the Simon property will be. Perhaps they will attract those from Rockville north? But I think Tanger at National Harbor would be a lot more fun to visit.

The only caveat I see is if Simon has a much better retail mix than Tanger. People will usually travel for the brands they like.

That streetcar would bring in significant revenue and increase home values if it can be used during commuting hours. One of the biggest failings of the ft. Washington area is the lack of rail options.

As an area homeowner I would support it.

I agree, placement is a bit poor for the 'tron. I like the options for how it could be used, just not the location.

I'm sure MGM would kick in a little seed money to get things rolling. As always, the more people that can come to your casino, the higher the profits.
