I feel the same way. Aldi is not my first second or third choice for a grocer. And yes, I have been inside and even shopped there. Nothing about it was appealing. But I am sure some people love it. I am just happy there will be multiple grocers in an area that was once deemed a food desert.

Sure, the aesthetics and presentation may not wow everyone, including me. But I never thought the quality of the food was any less than any other grocer.

What makes someone think the quality of food is less because the prices are less? They save by being the opposite of Trader Joe's in presentation and frills. The quality of food should be the same.

I just didn't really care for it. The lower price point will work well for a college town.

****tу writers write ****tу articles. To compare Aldi and Trader Joe's is moronic. Aldi (and Lidl) are discount grocery stores whereas TJ's borders on premium while remaining affordable (unlike WF).

There's no way you can Justify $2 wine, the same sister products found at Aldi, and pedestrian frozen food as premium. You want to talk premium, you're looking at Whole Foods with real seafood and butcher departments, Balduccis, Dean & Deluca, and I'll throw in Wegmen's for good measure. Trader Joe's is in no way premium. Not with those prices and not when 75% of the products are boxed or frozen. Trader Joe's doesn't even have a bakery.

The Perception is that Trader Joes is somehow premium because people in California thought it was cool to be able to shop at a German inspired grocery store with products not found in other grocers stores. That's it.

Aldi gets a bad rap because it was born and has always been perceived as discount. But that in no way means the quality is any less than any other grocery store. And they too have unique items you can't find at other stores. Aldi's problem was they went bare bones with the shopper experience whereas Trader Joe's has 20 employees working at the same time in an 8,000 sqft store, provides bags, and throw people in your face the moment you walk in the door as if you're buying a car.

Trader Joe's was first and had the opportunity to create a cult following. Lidl is coming last and will create a cult following of its own as it looks to take on Aldi providing a more complete grocery experience with more items to choose from.

Funny that people perceive Aldi's products to be inferior to other grocers when they carry some of the same exact brands as those grocers for less of the cost: Chiquita pineapples and organic/conventional bananas, organic/conventional apples distributed by Domex Superfresh Growers based in Washington state, Dole organic/conventional celery, etc... The Aldi in Bowie even sells the same organic red grapes brand that's sold in the MOM's a few doors down for less of the cost! They also sell select big name brand appliances from time to time for cheaper than other stores/sources. I bought this Stanley wet/dry vac from Aldi a few months ago and a Showtime Rotisserie 3000 series machine a year before that, both for $30! I mainly buy raw produce and other staples at Aldi though because it's cheaper than other grocers yet delivers the same quality. Even non-produce grocery products such as organic chicken broth, fire roasted diced tomatoes, etc... are the same quality as other comparable products at other grocers where I've bought the same products.

Please reread what I posted ,I never question their quality I question the grade of the product they are two very distinct and different things.Yes Aldi might carry the same product as other store's but I know for a fact they buy their product from the produce warehouse depot in Jessup .That happens to be the place Giant Food sends the product that they turn down for various different reasons.Giant is the only company in the mid Atlantic that still has it's own USDA inspectors on the warehouse receiving dock.

...Adelphi was not responding to you but to me

A grocer does not need its own inspectors if they are not the processors. Processing plants have to be inspected by USDA/FDA (for catfish). Having inspectors there as opposed to from the processors is not indicative of quality.

With all due respect I disagree. With the major recalls nowadays and as you said processing I think more companies like Giant need to do what they do.
