Never seen one yet in Tri-Cities, and I'm often out at night in the summer smoking a cigar reading a book.

Never seen any in Pullman, Colfax, Clarkston, or for that matter, any in all of Washington.

The link below says "fireflies that glow are typically not found west of Kansas".

I live in Tri Cities and I'd never seen any, though it does boggle my mind why we don't have them. I had to be in Virginia to see the ones that I'd seen.

But we do have a lot of other fun interesting creatures here and I don't mean the occasional rattle snakes, bull snakes, scorpions and black widows that I rarely ever find but their here...

Default Used to be fireflies in Washington

I saw 'em--in the Methow Valley near Winthrop. But that was in the summer of 1959 and '60. They flew around the field at Sunny M Ranch like tiny stars. Sorry to hear that they, like so much else in our benighted land, have been extinguished.

I have never seen them in Washington and I am a lifelong resident for 50 years. I saw them for the first time 3 years ago and then again last year in Montana, just outside of Deer Lodge. That area is very similar in climate and topography to Eastern Washington, so it baffles me why they are not here.

Default Red fireflies

I have been asking people for years about fireflies in Tri-Cities Washington because my brother and I remember red colored fireflies in Richland in the late 70's and early 80's. I distinctly remember their color was similar to brake lights at night and they were wider shaped in body than the lightning bugs I've seen in Ohio, which were yellow. Bummer is we haven't seen any since we were kids though.
