I hope you're not serious about not buying there because of that.
Oh Yes- I'm absolutely serious- why would I live in a town with that horrible name I'd be embarrassed to tell anyone I lived there when there are so many other places to choose from- does that sound wierd? it doesn't to me at all. Isn't that why they named Iceland-Iceland? so no one would want to live there even though it is a lovely place?
Thanks for posting that audible link- that sealed the deal-or no deal.

Why is it so horrible sounding?
Before it was anglicized it was known as S'Puyalupubsh in the Lushootseed dialect of the Salish language.
S'Puyalupubsh means "generous and welcoming to all who enter our lands".
Choosing not to live in a town because of its name does sound strange to me...

That's ok. When I looked at houses up here I wouldn't even look at a house on Husky Lane, since it reminded me of the days at JC Penney with my Mom, buying school clothes. With my short legs and...er, er...broad shoulders I always had to have husky pants, while my brothers wore slim.

See, i don't say it like a mans name, I say it like "all"!?!?! But I have heard both I guess. Maybe one is eastern WA and one western WA?
That song has to be on the internet somewhere?!?!

This is a silly thread...but the worst name of any town or city has got to be Flushing...and yet people choose to live there. Go figure

Puyallup is a really nice town and the people are really nice-- the daffodil parade that runs through town in April is the coolest thing- it really feels like home-
BTW- it is named after a Native American tribe- which is why there are alot of different sounding names in Washington.

And that, without a doubt, should be the reason a person would choose to move there...not something as frivolous as the name.

Well who are you going to be embarrassed by? Your family? Nobody here will think twice about it. I guess it depends on what your options are for there being so many other places to choose from. If money is no object, for instance, then by all means, go ahead and snub the city with the funny sounding name. Although, I bet the people from that tribe are actually proud of it rather than embarrassed by it.
I personally consider cost of rent and commute time as my biggest reasons for choosing a particular city. And if those shoes fit, I couldn't care less what the place is called.

To choose not to live in a place because of its name? That's right up there with my choosing not to live in a place if it has spiders!
